Enjoyable and beautiful spot to look at the river. Near the Grand Canyon National Park. Easy to get there from highway.

Wow. A real surprise to stop and see this. It was stunning. The canyon is massive and so deep it is amazing. It does't have all the colors of the Grand Canyon but it makes up in size. The neat thhing is you can get a nuch better view at the rim looking down then at the Grand Canyon. Worth the stop.

As you enter the Grand Canyon area from the east (Cameron) on Rt 64, about 12 miles in you'll see a sign and turnoff for the "Little Colorado River Gorge" overlook. As the name suggests, this is a huge canyon/gorge carved by the Little Colorado River, which joins the Colorado River several miles downstream from this point. This overlook is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park, but is well worth stopping to see. It's run by a local Native American tribe -- admission is simply by making a donation, $ amount of your own choosing -- no minimum expected. National Park passes do not apply here.

The views into the gorge are great -- much more than we expected to see, and equal to some of the views you'll see when you're in Grand Canyon National Park.

If you have mobility issues, this stop may be challenging, as the walk along the railed ege is rocky and uneven, with several areas where you'll need to step up or down on uneven rocks. In this case, you're better off taking advantage of the views in Grand Canyon itself, where walkways provide easier access.

Bottom line, awe-inspiring views worth the time and minimal expense to see. Highly Recommended!

Technically Little Colorado River Overlook is not inside Grand Canyon but its a must go if you are entering from east. As the name suggests you can see a Beautiful overlook of the Little Colorado River and canyons formed by it. While checking out the overlook, you can shop for some genuine handmade Navajo jewellery.

Cool stop on the way from Cameron to the Grand Canyon. This property is owned by the Navajo people, so there is a small donation to enter. Beautiful overlook of the Little Colorado River, very steep in some places.

This lookout is inside the Navajo Indian reservation and a donation is suggested to enter. Did not have any problems with the gentleman collecting the donations at the entrance. There are clean bathrooms and this alone is worth making a donation. It is a short walk to the last viewpoint and there are some small steps. The views are worth it. Before you get to the lookout there are plaques with lots of interesting information.
Near the parking area you can also see some nice Echinocactus polycephalus clumps as sell as other native plants.

Also here in the parking area are many stalls where Navajo artists or their relatives sell jewelry they make. As a big fan of native America jewelry I have purchased this kind of jewelry in many states and places. I can say that it is in the reservations where you can buy directly from the artists that I have found some if the best jewelry. Good workmanship and designs at the best prices. It used to be that you needed cash but now they take credit cards.

This place is worth checking out and it is never as crowded as the National Park.

The far eastern portion of the Grand Canyon along the Colorado River and Little Colorado River falls within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation, the largest Native American reservation in the United States. Though "Grand Canyon East" is not formally recognized as a Grand Canyon park, many visitors end up stopping for a view of the Little Colorado River Gorge. Upon exiting the Grand Canyon's South Rim from the east, you'll soon come upon the place to see it all, in all its glory--the Little Colorado River Gorge Overlook. A tributary of the Colorado River, the Little Colorado River has carved a canyon of its own that, like the many canyons within the Grand Canyon, is a world of beauty and wonder and contrast unto itself. During the summer months, its mineral content transforms its waters into a brilliant ribbon of robin's egg blue. During other times of the year, it displays an almost blood-red color. At the outlook, visitors can also browse kiosks, small shops or bead stands operated by Native Americans and shop for mementos or souvenirs of your visit.

We enjoyed the view. The river is very far down and you can see how nature carved its way through the landscape.

There was a requested donation to the Indian Tribe owners of the property for maintenance to enter the property, which was fine. There were many stalls with people selling silver jewelry, turquoise, pottery, and other Indian artifacts.

It was worth a stop and reading the information boards. It gives a preview of the magnificent view yet to come when you enter the GC National Park!

I stopped here en route to the Grand Canyon south rim. I wasn't sure what I was stopping at - I got suckered in. Compared with other scenary across the world it was nice. But compared to the Grand Canyon I could have skipped it and used the extra time at the Canyon.
