Massive stone room looks as if indeed a hermit built it as his man cave, a fireplace so big you can stand in it. The fireplace alcove is stunning as you enter the building from the north porch area. Usual gift shop takes up east and west side rooms. My absolute favorite work of planner and decorator Mary Colter. Yes... More

the 7 mile drive is well worth it. We did it first time in evening and the light was marvelous. you can take the tram or drive it. Well if brave can walk it. At end is a little souvenir shop. We drove the other end but the views at this end were the best

Interesting little spot at the end of the Rim Drive. Worth a few minutes to wander around and look at the gift shop. Has a small snack shop with limited fare, very expensive for what you get. Nice views as well.

Took the shuttle bus to Hermits Rest, took lunch and ate it on the benched there, also food outlet and toilets. Great starting point to walk the 7 miles back to the village.

This had some stories to share and things to see. Plus the view is astounding, one of my favorite of the places we saw along the way.

This is a beautiful place to visit on on the South Rim. My wife, our son, and I were here in the season when one can take a private car to Hermit's Rest; from March 1 to Nov 30 you need to take the free shuttle. Walking a couple of miles on the paved trail on the Rim toward the... More

By visiting in the winter, we were able to drive to Hermit's rest, stopping at every turn-out for another view of the canyon. The fireplace inside was putting out a lot of warmth, felt good since it was chilly outside. We saw 4 elk on our drive back to the village...girls out for lunch.

After visiting the different Grand Canyon viewpoints along the way, it feels great to reach the Hermit's rest when it's cold outside and they have the fireplace burning. Limited snack options and some gifts are available. Have a walk around the place even if you don't plan on hiking the trail.

The structure is unique and interesting place to visit. The gift shop inside is not impressive, but perhaps the trail,is worth the drive.
