Word of mouth has that the more remote, harder to get to and therefore less crowded North Rim offers a more authentic Canyon experience and better views. However, there is no bus service on this rim and it is closed during the winter.

Nowhere near the experience you'll have at the South Rim where the view is more panoramic and spectacular. But hey, its the Grand Canyon. At least a 4 1/2 star experience. Great place to watch the sun set and to avoid the South Rim crowds.
Magnificent views abound from every angel you stand at along the rim. The sunlight beams down on this magnificant canyon highlighting the ledges and creases! It is certainly a tremendous stop and well worth the time!
Great trail to view the canyon. Takes off from behind lodge/visitor center. It is not too lon and pretty flat. 8000 feet elevation can get you though. Take your time and stop along the way. There are cabins and a lodge and picnic area. Certainly...More

Hi, have not been to Soth Rim, (too many people). but on the North Rim, Yeap, plenty of trails for you and the kids. Just get a trail map at theft shop or visitors center, if its still open. Things start to close during the months you're going. We went in September, but some things were closed. But presented no problems for us. We stayed for or five nights. Enjoy and have a safe trip. :)
