Beautiful lake but quite a drive to get there

The parking lot is tiny and they were turning cars away all day. We happened to get a spot. The... read more

We were told that the road to Bowman was closed due to the parking lot being full. We decided to go for it anyway and at least drive through to see the lake since we'd come so far. The gravel road was very narrow and...More

The parking lot is tiny and they were turning cars away all day. We happened to get a spot. The road was 6 miles of horrible potholes. We probably wouldn't have gone had we known how bad the road was. Once there though, going out...More

Believe it or not, we were unable to get to Bowman Lake because the parking lot was congested. This is a somewhat remote lake northeast of Polebridge, MT, in Glacier Park. We went on a Thursday, and after driving for over an hour on rough,...More

I've been on rough roads and to us this wasn't really bad but it wasn't that good either. It's a slow go for sure. I'd go up early because you have less people that are coming down and the road is narrow. Be sure to...More

Our first day at Glacier, we did a half-day morning whitewater rafting trip. Lake Bowman fit in perfectly for our afternoon itinerary. At the first four-way stop when you enter the West Glacier entrance, turn left to Polebridge. At Polebridge, have a beer and lunch...More

Seriously, despite the ALL CAPs and exclamation marks of other reviewers, the six-mile road from the ranger station is indeed twisty and gravel-y but similar to other such roads you've likely driven on. Don't expect car-swallowing potholes or anything of the like but you'll do...More

Bowman lake is absolutely STUNNING!! We were only here for a short time because it was near the trailhead for the Quartz lake loop trail (which was horrible!! - I would never recommend that hike). If we would've known Bowman was so pretty and the...More

Get to the park entrance past Polebridge. Then drive a narrow, twisting rock/dirt road for 6 or so miles to this beautiful lake. There is a boat launch area and limited camping and parking. We were there at season's opening and absolutely lucked out to...More

If you have been at Glacier Park for the week, hiked the marquee trails, and experienced all there is to see and do on Going-To-The-Sun Road – you might be in need of some rest and relaxation. Bowman Lake is a relaxed, relatively uncrowded, and...More

Bowman Lake is gorgeous but it, like Kintla Lake with its even WORSE road nearby, is reached by a narrow and dreadfully maintained dirt track of more or less one lane. You will be out of range for your cell phone and a long way...More

I think you can with a permit. When we were there, several overnight campers were there and parked. They had windshield permits though. We were just there for the day.
