I was there to photograph the dunes in the sunset. The sunset wasn't great but I got some photos and then again in the morning when the shadows were good.

FYI I wouldn't go exploring around the dunes on the dirt roads without 4WD and high clearance. These dunes are huge and if you are planning to hike to the top of a high peak, better giver yourself plenty of time before sunset. I stayed...More

Visited the dunes in the evening and enjoyed the changing colours of sand dunes during sunset. Very few people visit the dunes. The highest dunes are about a mile walk from the parking lot. A good, isolated and peaceful place to enjoy.

These Dunes are amazing. Steep, tall, majestic, sharp, untouched, isolated are a few words to describe them. Unlike the eureka dues these have few visitors and are not marked tracked with hoards of people. During our 3 hour visit to the top only two other...More

Very scenic stop and the dunes are amazing. Coming from the south the concept of sand dunes in USA are intriguing. Definitely worth the Tim and effort to experience. Adequate parking.

How long from one of the main roads through Death Valley does i take to get to the Dunes ? And is it better to photograph them with sunrise or sunset? I'm heading there in a few days so any help is appreciated. Thanks Garry
