It's a one-way gravel round that loops from the top of the entrance drive, near the visitor center, back towards the entrance. It's a 9.5 mile drive that can be very enjoyable, if you slow down, roll down your windows and take it in. We saw Javelinas, a couple of Mule Deer and a tarantula. To see the most animals... More

Ask for a brochure for the drive at the Caverns information desk before heading out. Without the guide, the drive is still scenic, but there are numbered points of interest along the drive that are detailed in the brochure. There is a small stand at the beginning of the drive that should have these handouts, but it is frequently empty.... More

we decided to see the canyon. The road to it was very sonic and enjoyable. The canyon is a must see if you are near Flagstaff

Nice drive through the area, about 9 miles on a one way gravel road. Get a map at the visitors center which describes the marked turn outs.

If you have some time to kill after you've done the caverns and are waiting around for the bat exhibit or have some time before you watch a drive in movie or the bat flight thing go ahead and do this drive. There are a few pretty nice views and if you have some weather it might even be better.

Nice views of the Guadeloupe Mountains and the canyons. Easy drive so that the driver can enjoy it as well. Dirt roads on a one way loop. We didn’t see any other cars.

Stop by the visitor's center at the caves and ask for the map (save yourself the $0.50 at the head of the drive). The map has very well thought out descriptions and explanations of life in the desert. We enjoyed seeing all sorts of wildlife and plants on the drive that took us about 45 minutes. We were driving slow... More

The road is not paved, but it is in good condition. It traverses the desert and provides views of Rattlesnake Canyon and Walnut Canyon. We saw a few mule deer, but no other animals. It is a way to spend your time while waiting on the bat flight program. The road closes at 5:30.

This is an optional drive in the Carlsbad Canyon National Park. The drive is on a one way gravel road. Get the guide that tells you what the stops are for. Now, this isn't a long drive, and it isn't the best I've ever been on, but you traveled all this way to see the caverns, why not see some... More

Purchase the guide for $.50 at beginning, it's worth it. We stopped at each point and took turns reading the information. We learned a lot about the areas history, formations, and fauna. The drive would be pretty without the guide, but is much better with!
