The natural entrance is paved, but is wet and steep - not recommended for anyone with knee problems. It took us an hour to walk down from the natural entrance to the Big Room. Note that you must start the natural entrance walk by 2:30pm....More

This is where the bats fly out of at night. There is a big amphitheater in front of the opening. it is a steep and zig zag walk down. not for the weak or delicate.

Well worth the extra time and effort for the natural entrance. Going in that way gives you an idea of what the original cave explorers must have gone through. It took a solid 3-4 hours to take the natural entrance, tour the big room, and...More

What an amazing experience hiking down into Carlsbad Caverns through the natural entrance. The limestone creates such an amazing array of sculptures. The walk down to the bottom is long but easy, however , the hike back is equally as long but strenuous so make...More

I believe it was a 1.5 mile walk down to where the elevator is. It would be a steep trek back up.
