I perused TripAdvisor prior to going here so I knew some of the key things to look for. This was fun to see in person and because of the name, was comical to imagine it being a lion's tail hanging from the ceiling. While it wasn't my (or probably anyones) favorite part of the caverns, it was still appropriately named.

Another one of the formations along the main route in the caverns. This simple and unique formation can be easily missed!

There are signs marking the location of the Lions Tail in the Big Room so you can't miss it. You walk along the trail of the Big Room, see the sign, look up and there it is. Crazy looking stalactite and one of many.

The Lion’s Tail is a stalactite located near the beginning of the self-guided Big Room tour that looks amazingly like a Lion’s Tail. Located a little past the Giant Dome on the right hand side, keep careful watch to find it as it is best viewed after walking past it a bit and looking back. There are a couple of... More

The Lions Tail was one of the most incredible features in Carlsbad Caverns. There are many others as well. This was an incredible half day in the cave.

Just one of the many spectacular formations you will see on the walk around the big room. It really does look like a lion's tail.

This is one of the great sights inside the Carlsbad cavern, it really does look like a lions tail. I asked the Rangers at the end how it had formed like that and the answer is fascinating!!

Keep your eyes open for all the stalactite and stalagmites. so much to see. Keep looking up down and all around some stalagmites look like statues or trolls ... . some areas have what looks like lace/ filigree. Beautiful!

This really does look like a lion's tail. One the more unique formations in the Carlsbad Caverns. Very cool.
