This was the first trail we went on...when my boys (17,14) first saw that it was all boardwalks they were a little disappointed, especially when signs say to stay on the trail...but at the top there are several off shoots from the main trail that...More

Stop by the visitor's center just down the road and get a trail guide. The hike is up to national park standards with boardwalk and stairs as needed. But it is still a challenging hike with lots of stairs. When we were there the signposts...More

Great hike on a well maintained trail. Lots of stairs but worth the hike. The view from the top is amazing. Great southern views. You can do it.

This is a really short and easy trail that is a lot of boardwalks and some staircases. It does gain some elevation. it is a nice walk through a juniper forest, one of the only areas in the park with trees. It smells amazing and...More

This relatively short trail goes up some stairs and steep inclines adding some strenuousness. There is actually some shade here - if it's very hot and you want more shade ascend counter-clockwise and go back down the way you came. Nice views at the top.

In July 2016, this is the first trail we went on and it was nice. Take your time through the trees, there are not many more trees or shade in the park. Wear good hiking shoes and pack lots of water. I recommend this trail...More

Going up wasn't too bad, but coming back down gets a little interesting. Kids and husband had fun but this not as adventurous mom was a little stressed. Views are awesome.

Any hike - or time spent - in the Badlands is rewarding. But we didn't feel like this hike was a "must do" one. If you skipped it, you would not be missing one of the highlights of an amazing park.

I'd rank the Cliff Shelf Trail #4 of the short Badlands Trails. This trail offers panoramic views of the Badlands, a little more vegetation and shelter than the other trails, and possibly a better possibility of seeing wildlife. It's a loop trail too, so you...More

You have to climb a bit, mostly on stairs, but this is a good family trail that offers excellent views. Plus, it's one of the few places with trees and a bit of shade along the way.
