An easy drive to see some beautiful scenery. It is unlike anything else in South Dakota. The fact that they were created by volcanos and continued the erosion will make you feel insignificant but inspired.

I heard of the Badlands before, but did not think I would this amazing. We saw prairie dog, long horn sheep, mountains. The color of the area was so great I loved it all. The restaurant had great food, Try the Indian Taco Salad.

My husband and I visited Badlands National Park, having last been there about 25 years ago. It is still beautiful and full of wildlife - it did not disappoint! We drove both the Badlands Loop Road (paved) and the Sage Creek Rim Road (unpaved). We...More

It's hard to describe. Simply amazing. If you a have a National Park's Card, you will receive free admission. It took us a good 2 hours, but you could spend more time easily.

This is an amazing National Park which has unusual rock formations, and gorgeous and unique elements of both Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. There are peaks, valleys, gullies, buttes and wide prairies of the Badlands which attract us travelers. Wind and rain erosion have created...More

This is an absolute must see for everyone. The formations of the rock and giant craters are breath taking.

I don't think I have ever seen anything so amazing in my life. The formations have eroded so that one can easily see the different layers deposited over the eons. We did hike on the marked trails for safety purposes. Be aware that there are...More

So unique and fascinating to see ALL of these formations! Each pullout offers a different view of some of the same amazing features. Look closely, you may see mountain goats or big horn sheep!

We have flown over and driven by -- neither prepared us for the vastness and uniqueness of the topography. No matter the time of year, take a jacket. It seems the wind is always whipping across the plains. Cute prarie dogs, a few sheep, deer...More

Oh my has this place changed. We were so disappointed and will never stop here again. Nothing like it was in the 80's. I do not recommend stopping at all.

Not sure how easy that would be, some of the roads are windy and narrow.

How long should the drive to Badlands National Park take from Hill City? What is the quickest route? What is the most scenic route? Is it possible as a day trip (i.e there and back)?

We took I-90 to Wall and than took the scenic loop 244 which gets you automatically back to I-90. Took us about 1.5 to 2 hrs with many stops. Very beautiful scenic tour!
