I could have watched the water crash into Thunder Hole for hours! When we were there the end of the boardwalk was closed due to the wind and crashing tide. It was splashing all over the end of the boardwalk. We still were able to...More

We visited several times during our trip to Acadia, including some very windy days with good sized surf - no "thunder" that we were able to experience, but still a fun place to explore the coast line and see the views.

You need to go when the tide is high or maybe even during a storm so you can get to see the waves really crash! A beautiful place to just sit and observe nature!

Cramped parking just not to see thunder....I think tide and swell need to be examined before you plan the time to visit

We visited on a clear day and managed to witness the 'thunder' quite a few times. The only gripe is tourists climbing over fences, that are there for their safety, to get closer/get a better photo.. so you end up spending your time worrying you...More

When we went it was the edge of a hurricane lashing the coast and the waves were big, the rain was streaming down and the the wind was fierce. The perfect storm for Thunder Hole. Benign seas and it is just another picturesque coastal scene....More

Like a great many people - hundreds, in fact - we all, unwittingly, made our way down to Thunder Hole only to realise that it only 'thunders' at a certain time - which wasn't when we were there. From the set-up there, bet it would...More

It was super cool to hear how loud the water smacked the rocks at the right tide. Was worried some daredevils were going to fall in to their demise. Lots of places to climb around safely and great photo ops.

What a great nature show The water is moving in and out of a cave and hits the walls and creates water spouting up

If you are visiting Bar Harbour for a day from a cruise ship or spending a few days in the area, be sure to get away to Acadia National Forest. It is just a short drive from town. Thunderhole is part of what you will...More

People have brought their dogs on leashes here. Keep your dog's temperament in mind. The crowds at the peak viewing times (which will include children) may be difficult to navigate. If you want to check the tidepools... More
