Not much to see if the castle as it's all in ruins but the views are worth the visit It would be good if they gave you an information booklet for the €4 entry fee but all you get is your ticket

We visited without reading reviews, still haven't read them but don't waste your time. There is nothing to see here, just a lot of trees and some extremely basic structures, there is no castle, not even a draw bridge or surrounding wall where you can...More

The fortress itself is not something of its own, because it was destroyed in an earthquake, but it is nice to visit, because the impression is that Zakynthos is not an island of the new age but that it has centuries of time. The entry...More

I am a castle and ruins geek, so this was a beautiful place for me! We walked up from Zakynthos town quite early in the morning - about 30 minutes, and passed a few pleasant hours in peace and tranquillity. There isn't much to see...More

We caught a taxi up to the castle as we could not be bothered to walk which cost us 8 euros and then a taxi back to our hotel in Kalamaki for 15 euros. The cost of entry as 4 euros each which was quite...More

You don't see much just some walls and remains of buildings, but it's a nice quite place to learn a bit history of the island.

After a long walk up we. found the castle or what remains of it. We thought 4 euros each quite expensive when there is little to see and no toilet facilities or refreshments on site.(well both closed at the end of May) Lovely views over...More

Great views of the Island. Lovely to walk through the trees. Not a lot of the fort left but interesting. Took about 1 hour & 15 minutes to see all the fort area & some nice taverna's near by.

There were few obvious paths cut in the grass/weeds so it was tough to negotiate our way round some parts. The signs/maps were minimal on detail. Fabulous views down over Zakynthos harbour and the surrounding areas. Somewhere fun for the kids to run around and...More

Since we took wrong on the time and days I doubt I am the one who answer the openinh hours. But I'd believe you can take that in, in a smaller bag or something. I took my camerabag in and there were no problems.

I think the other answers have this covered but I would echo what they have said. If I were coming from the town then I would probably take a taxi there, or enjoy the lovely walk up through the trees (if you can find the... More
