went here during dry season and the reward was not worth the hot and difficult trek. i would highly suggest going during wet season so that you can appreciate the glory of the fall and be able to play in the water to cool down after a long hike

Visited Ometepe recently and made the trek to San Ramón waterfall. This was one of the stops on our private tour so we did have a guide but one is definitely not required. There are clear signs indicating which direction to go. Make sure you leave well before noon to ensure you have enough time to take in the scenery,... More

Used Eric Henriquez as our guide for Ometepe, highly recommend his services, very professional, knowledgeable very good english. The hike to San Ramon waterfall took our family about 5 hrs round trip. The hike up very strenuous at times but scenery and experience was so beautiful (hubby and I 60 plus, so we took longer.) Would not recommend hike to... More

Waterfall at the end was not as impressive as I liked after the tough walk up, however the walk itself was what I enjoyed most. Fantastic scenery, howlers along the way. Very steep/ tough climb nearer the top.

The hike is difficult. The first 3/4 can be accessed by horse, but you must make the last 1/4 on your own. It's very steep and rocky. You must climb over boulders. Some of it is wet and slippery. However, when you reach the top, there is a magnificent waterfall and pool below. You can go in the falls and... More

It is a good hike . Start early in the nicaraguayen heat it is hard. The last leg is more difficult but worth it. You can use the fall to cool down . It gets more crowded at lunch.

This is one of the highlights in Ometepe! I have read some reviews of dry waterfall during dry season, which I can understand. We visited the waterfall in december and it was quite small already, but really nice and high. The hike is about 1.5hrs/3-4km and in some places kind of steep, more than I expected. The first part of... More

This is not gonna be an amazing attraction if you go during the dry season. The waterfall is super tall and the hike to get there is a nice moderate hike and generally shaded. The trail is kind of hard to navigate so you might want to go with a guide. When me and my friends went we saw a... More

We took our quad to within about 1km of the waterfall and walked the rest (recommended as not much too see on the lower bit). The walk as pretty nice but then you get to the trickle and it's a bit of a, ah is that it feeling.

Do the 1.5 hour hike up only if you want to see an underwhelming waterfall (well, unless you like hiking just for the sake of it). The waterfall itself is quite high but don't expect to swim in the little pond right at the bottom of it... I wouldn't recommend doing the 3km hike up, but take your quad or... More
