The Kustendorf Film Festival is held annually in Drvengrad. You really won't see too many signs for Kustendorf other than for the film festival which is held in early January. We stopped here after visiting the Sargan Eight Railway which is nearby.

I like films of Kusturica very much, so I decided to visit his village Mehavnik (Kustendorf). We with my wife booked a room there for one night. We lived in a house with wooden roof, good room in attic. On the next day after arrival we took good breakfast and went to a pool, very nice view from it to the mountain. Unfortunately, we didn't see Emir itself!
Near this place there is narrow-gauge railway - Sarganska Osmica - touristic railway which have a lot of tunnels and very nice viewing platforms. Also there is a station Golubici, where "Live is a miracle" was shot.

If you are looking for a meaningful peaceful place to visit and get a good sense of Serbia, this is a place to go. Kustendorf, Drven Grad (Wooden City) or Mecavnik is a unique place where you can spend a couple of nights and enjoy great views, walks and food. Often You can share a meal or Rakija with famous director Kusturica or other famous Hollywood actors that use this place as an escape to nature between the recordings. There is also a kindergarten for the kids. All of the food and drinks are not only organic but hand made for the visitors.

We enjoyed being in the village as well as the views of the surrounding nature. We stayed in one of the houses right in the middle of the village. We found the facilities all together lacking in comfort: the 'double bed' (and blanket) are not sufficient for 2 adults, the bathrooms are very small, the interior is not well maintained. Other reviews also point to the food not being of sufficient quality (especially breakfast), or the fact that opening hours of the restaurants/coffee bar are very limited. All true. All in all, this did not meet our expectations.

Used to be a movie set , has a lot of good looking wooden houses which results in an Interesting walk around the place with a good scenic view.
It has a good restaurant with a great view. I am told there are more restaurants than the one we tried .
Overall though the place was good, it was a tad boring , maybe because we did not stay the night there and had stopped for lunch and a short visit.
Wont mind stopping at this place on way to some place but not a destination in itself.

We were passing trough this area on the way from Belgrade to Sarajevo. It was organized mini van drive with an agency that usally organizes even trips to Drvengrad, so driver sad they are stopping there almoust every day not paying entrance, but not staying more then 20 minutes, they eat and have a drink. Since we had only 20 minutes break, why not... It was such unpleasent suprise when a door man did not let us in, even knowing a driver, even it was a usual to stop there, he was asking a 250 Serbian dinars for each just to enter, and the worst thing it was that just in front of us he did let come in 5 other person free of charge.

Dear all,
I'm doing research for the documentary series Barber Shop, revolving around barber shops around the world. In 6 separate episodes we meet 6 populations in a world in transition through the microcosm of the local barbershop.
Emir Kusturica's village Drvengrad could be a very interesting environment to film one of those episodes.
I've read Drvengrad has a hairdresser. I'd like to know if this really is a fulltime operating hair salon where many people go to get their hair cut all the time, or more of an occasional thing (like only with appointments every once in a while)?
Hoping someone here can answer my question!
Best,
Ebe

Добрый день! Скажите пожалуйста, как мне добраться туда на общественном транспорте из Белграда? Где можно остановиться около этой деревни поблизости на пару дней? Предположительно октябрь месяц. Спасибо за ответ!
