Inside, the remarkable vaulted main staircase leads to the great hall and its fireplace illustrating Hercules' Labours. Today the Château features an impressive collection of 17th and 18th century furniture and tapestries. Absolutely wonderful chateau. From an architectural viewpoint it is interesting in seeing the transition between Gothic and Renaissance architecture, since it spans both styles. Our visit was made even more enjoyable by a very knowledgeable tour guide and a very small group. Although the furnishings...More

I was expecting a mini-Versaille with all the gold trappings that go along with it, but I was wrong, yet pleasantly surprised ! You park in a wood and walk along a track for 200 metres or so, then the old chateau hoves into view...More

Well worth a visit, very interesting history to the Chateau, explained beautifully by the tour guide, who apologised for his 'almost perfect' English...!

The employee at the office knew nothing about the Chateau. The access was terrible, and furnishings non existent. I don't understand the good reviews. I found it to be a total waste of time and money, with the only interest being the exterior, which cannot...More

Go to a very poorly signposted Chateau with a notice on the gate which says it's open and it's not! We are not amused!

This chateau is actually a magnificent hunting lodge with some fascinating architecture arising from changing fashions in centuries gone by. The chateau is state owned and kept in excellent condition. There aren't many furnishings but some of the wall tapestries, fireplaces and ceilings are top-class...More

We visited the chateau after going to the grottoes de villars as it was nearby. On arrival the building seems very charming but it is no national trust type of visit. The building is almost completely empty of artefacts and furniture. There were a few...More

Nice enough building with some interesting stonework, but that's about it. We found the way in (no sign) but there was only a spiral stone staircase with some very ordinary displays. Through a window we saw a guided tour (different unmarked entrance). Why do the...More
