The area
Neighbourhood: Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

Perfect garden to walk along with beautiful scenery and fresh air. There has some cafe and restaurant inside the park as well.

Our accommodation in Tokyo was a short bus ride to this park .
The first time we went , we didn’t realise it was a public holiday.
It was really very busy , but once we wandered away from the lake and the zoo it was a lot quieter .
It just happened to be a very sunny + warm 24c day , fortunately there is lots of shade and places to get food and drinks .
Our next visit , was a quiet weekday .
We had already visited the shrine , so this time we opted to go to the museum of art .
Very relaxing and pleasant afternoon out

This park is right outside one of the exits of Ueno Station, so it’s very accessible. There’s plenty to see here: shrines, lotus ponds, museums, zoo & outdoor art. I love the sculptures of Rodin. The lotus pond is dead during winter but looking at the size of it, I can imagine the incredible beauty when it’s in full bloom. I did not go into the zoo but I saw a lot of interesting birds on the pond. There’re some interesting buskers doing their stuff in the park so it was quite entertaining too. Overall, it’s a nice to wander around and a nice change from the usual shopping streets of Tokyo.

We were a bit naïve to think the cherry blossoms would be around during our visit. They were not. So it pays to do your homework to find out exactly when they might flower, how long they might flower for, and to also give the tree's some grace period incase they flower too early or too late.

After my earlier visit to Naga Meguro I went to Ueno Park to view the blooming cherry blossoms over there. Ueno Park is quite famous for the huge amounts of cherry blossom trees.
However I always have the idea that the whole of Tokyo is going to Ueno Park. This time sitting below the trees was not allowed though because of COVID, so everybody was strolling through the park.
Nevertheless Ueno Park maintains to be a great spot to see the blooming cherry trees. Especially the small walking road across the pond is something not to be missed. I really love this track with left and right beautiful cherry trees.
For a first-time blossom tree visitor in Japan I really advice this park to get started.

Great park with lots of museums and temple. Strolling around the park enjoying trees and gardens then take an intermittent break in various museums is a good way to spend time leisurely

It is no exaggeration to say that this park is a "Aggregation of art and culture". Science, art, theatrical performances, shrines and temples, street performances, etc., all kinds of art and culture, both ancient and modern, are gathered in this park. Even if it doesn't have any particular event, the park is large enough to enjoy just strolling around. The cherry blossom trees that line the park are synonymous with Tokyo's springtime attractions, and many tourists from Japan and abroad visit the park to view the blossoms.
Since it is one of the most famous spots for sightseeing in Tokyo, many tourists flock to the park when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and other events are being held, sometimes ruining the quiet atmosphere of the park. Also, the park is sometimes very dirty with garbage scattered around by some uncaring visitors. Crows and other animals gather to eat the food in the garbage and spread their feces around, making it even dirtier.
If you avoid the crowded times of the year and stroll around with good manners, you will have a wonderful time.

Compared to other parks, this was average for us. No entrance fees. There were not much any places to rest other than the Starbucks and another cafe nearby. Since hanami was not allowed, you can't sit along the walkway through the cherryblossoms. So you have to continuously walk - we did stumble upon some beautiful shrines along the way and of course, there's Ueno Zoo. If you're planning to eat here, better buy some at the Ueno station before walking through the park.

A great park to people watch and visit a few historic sites. It is also not far from the metro station.
