The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.

Off the crowded streets are getting to you, check out this lovely Japanese garden very close to Tokyo Tower for beauty and tranquility.
Sister park admission is included in the price which was very inexpensive for US dollar exchange.

My one request, when taking the teenage kids to Tokyo, was to find a koi pond. That was my one non-negotiable.

I have a large fish tank but no garden space for a koi pond.

Happoen was all my Japanese garden and koi dreams come true.

Was beautiful. Eating dinner on the terrace while overlooking the garden was perfect. Food was delicious too.

Happo-en Garden is hidden in Tokyo and many tourists would not even know it exists. The phrase, Happo-en, means garden of eight views and describes the beauty of the garden that can be enjoyed from all angles. Happo-en garden has preserved the beauty of Japan through the centuries and maintains its historical buildings. All the buildings and nature such as hills and streams intertwine and create a perfect balance of old and new.
The garden of eight views is beautiful from any angle. It also has beauty in every season because of the careful attention of the gardeners. You can see sakura in the spring or the autumn colors of the maples in the fall. The garden never loses its charm. The fact remains that this garden is a delight for the senses.

Small but beautiful and serene gardens. We went early am around 9 am and we were the only ones there and saw them prepare for the tourist arrival. So calming and worth the visit.

Their small but beautiful garden is nicely illuminated during autumn colors. It's free to get in and not crowded.

This is a lovely garden which is a 10 minute taxi ride from the Tokyo Westin. It is so picturesque that it is filled with newlyweds getting their photo taken. It is a lovely place to sit and people watch or find a quiet corner and be zen. It has the largest Koi that I have ever seen. It takes you about 30 minutes to circle the gardens but I would reserve an hour. It’s pretty close to Shinagawa station (10 minute taxi ride). Not good for wheelchairs. There are restrooms in the building nearby. If the taxi drops you at the resort, just ask for directions to the garden, it’s like a 2 minute walk. The gardens are free.

Signage seemed to suggest that you should be a guest of a local conference facility to enter free but there was no obvious way to pay so we just entered.

Beautiful classic Japanese gardens with lakes, rivers and of course a 200+ year old tea house.Just gorgeous.

Be aware that it is a very popular wedding venue and often has large sections of the gardens closed off for these events.

Happoen Garden features all of the traditional elements of a Japanese garden—koi-filled ponds and a traditional tea house. It is renowned for its harmony with nature, featuring cherry trees, bonsai, and maple trees. It is a good spot to see a traditional wedding ceremony.
