The area
Neighbourhood: Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.

I booked a private cooking lesson for my family (two adults, three teenage boys) with Kaori to make vegan sushi, inari and nigiri with tofu mayo and miso soup. It was a big menu but my boys really enjoy cooking and were keen to learn the proper techniques. Kaori is a great host and she was kind, generous and flexible in terms of ingredients and method. It was an excellent experience and I can highly recommend. We will definitely be making this sushi again when we get back home to NZ.

It is not easy to find vegan cooking classes in Japan, let alone vegan & glutenfree, but at the BentoYa cooking school they offer these classes ! I made tempura, udon noodles, gyoza, miso soup, different kinds of sauces and dips, and a sweet. Everything was very tasty and both owners/instructors, Rina and Aikiko, are very professional and friendly. If I am back in Tokyo I will definitely go again to this school to learn more. I highly recommend this cooking school to anyone who wants learn about Japanese cooking!

Class started from the moment we met up in tokyo. I was shown the type of groceries that was required. The cooking class was very informative and simple. It was very good and worth the price. Highly recommended!

I was looking for vegan tsukemen in Tokyo, but like anything vegan in Japan, it was really hard to find (actually I never found any restaurant for this dish, even asking on a Japanese vegan FB group). Instead I was approached by BentoYa who offered to hold a vegan tsukemen class (plus vegan gyoza)! I never knew there were vegan cooking classes in Tokyo - and even held in English! The chef, Akiko, and all the other members were very warm and welcoming, and we cooked some of the best food I’ve ever cooked. We received a lot of tips on products that you can find either in the Japanese supermarket or online, which I found really useful. After the class we stayed a while and had a chat with the BentoYa team members, you can tell they are super passionate about what they do and about veganism! All in all, it was a lovely evening with a lot of delicious food and really good company! Will definitely be back for more classes.

If you are vegan/vegetarian living in Japan or just enjoy Japanese food, I highly recommend the Bento-ya class. The gyoza and ramen are so simple to cook and yet so delicious. I will definitely be treating myself to these dishes a lot while I live in Tokyo. And Rina was amazing. She makes you feel very comfortable and is so lovely to talk to (she has great English). I highly recommend the experience!

I just came across the oppotunity to attend Bento-ya class.
I could have a fun time with teacher and vegan ramen made together was very tasty!
I'm not sure where such kind of classes except for Bento-ya have been held.
I believe attendees won't regret!!!

We had a great time with Rina.
Rina is a lovely person and a great teacher that teach how to make amazing food.
The cooking class was vegetarian and it not so easy to find vegetarian cooking class in Japan.
Rina has great English and the payment was comfortable through PayPal.
If you in Japan, you must be in Rina's cooking class.

I just took my first vegan cooking class at Bentoya and had so much fun! Both of the instructors are so knowledgeable and attentive, they made us feel at home. The class size was small enough (around 6, 7 people) that we could ask questions whenever we wanted, chat and make new friends.
I’m not Vegan myself but always wanted to learn how to cook for my vegan friends for dinner parties etc. They will tell you where to buy ingredients etc so you can practice / try at home as well. it’s a great way to learn how to make fun Japanese dishes. Bentoya is a gem- totally recommend to anyone who is curious about vegan Japanese cooking!
