If you are looking for a place to meet in Shimbashi, where there are many Izakaya (Japanese style pubs), this is definitely the place to go. There is no doubt that you will get lost, especially if you meet up in front of the SL that is the square's icon, but on the other hand, there are so many people thinking the same thing. In addition, most of them are in suits and it's hard to tell them apart, especially at night. If you decide to meet up, you should specify in detail, such as being in front of the tip of the SL, not simply in front of it. Sometimes tents for product fairs are set up in this square. You'll be able to enjoy the local products. In winter, the SL is illuminated with lights, which are brilliantly decorated, but not very romantic. Because at that time of year, there are a lot of businessmen who lack the decency to get intoxicated.

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Odaiba / Shiodome / Shinbashi
Odaiba is an entertainment hotspot with a giant ferris wheel, concert halls, amusement arcades and lots of shopping. It also boasts Oedo-onsen-monogatari, a hotspring that recreates old Edo-era ambiance and is very popular with foreign visitors. Shiodome has ultra-modern office buildings where you can often find restaurants with a great high-rise view of Tokyo. The neighboring area of Shinbashi is a district of much older commercial buildings and it's a great place to join 'salary men' enjoying a drink and snacks at street stalls under the railway bridges after work.

We enjoyed the 6th Fukushima Sake Festival - I want to tell you thank you - which was held at SL Square on October 3-4, 2024. Fifty-two breweries (102 brands) in Fukushima Prefecture are participating in the event, and if you buy an admission ticket for ¥2,000, you will receive [a special Fukushima appetizer box (with various ingredients from Fukushima Prefecture, see attached photo)] and five Fukushima sake exchange tickets (with a 60-minute time limit), so you can search for your favorite sake and enjoy it. In my case, I sampled five different types of sake: [Toyokuni Shuzo Junmai Ginjo] [Toyokuni Shuzo Junmai Ginjo Ikki] [Miharu Shuzo Junmai Ginjo Genshu] [Yamaguchi Gona Junmai Ginjo Gihei] [Nakurayama Shuzo Junmai Ginjo Zenya]. The Fukushima Sake Festival seems to be held every year, and it's something you'll want to participate in next year.

I would like to depict precise informtation on this.I visited this place more than 100-200 times and would insist this is not a sight seeing spot, rather a place where we would kill time. Shinbashi area is in the center of Tokyo, business disctrict, and close to Ginza. This place is in front of the Shinbashi station, not so big, but large enough to hold small events, therefore, here holds many events at times.SL is placed, call SL plaza, merely so.Not for sightseeing spot, cannot be expected to view anything.

This place have SL train, that being used in former Japan transportation. There some convenient stores around here. Good place to meet up with someone.

You can see typical Tokyo people working here.

This is a large open space that is mostly interesting just for the way the Japanese do their signage on buildings. Here with the open space you will get a good view of it.

The first train line ever in Japan ran between Shimbashi and Yokohama. That's why this train carriage is here. Not a major attraction, but a symbol of Shimbashi

There is not much to see except the steam locomotive. However, in the immediate area, there are a lot of discount shops and small restaurants. A bit of old Tokyo that has not been torn down for new construction.

There is an open space next to Shimbashi Station. Usually there is also a great place for functions and shows.
