The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

Basement floor. Cool space. It’s a quick visit, but so worth it! It’s in Ginza so you can check it out between shopping sightseeing. Hermes 8th floor gallery also cool if you are going to shiseido

This free gallery houses rotating exhibitions of contemporary Japanese artists.

The current exhibition is the fifth and final exhibition by members of the Seventh Tsubaki-kai (an artists’ exhibition group created in 1947 as part of the Shiseido Gallery’s reopening after the 2nd world war) and features paintings, photography, sculpture and a beautiful performance dance piece.

All print materials in the gallery are in Japanese only, but you can find out more about the works and artists by visiting their website (where all information is translated into English).

For decades, this cosmetic company has supported contemporary artists such as Car Guo Qiang. It has a white cube gallery in the basement of their restaurant/parlour building in Ginza, which holds free exhibitions of contemporary art. The display is beautiful, and I recommend this place for art lovers.
