Top ways to experience Ginza
The area
Neighbourhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

I happen to enjoy going to stores where I can actually buy things!! I had two classes at TUJ today and I decided to live life and go here!! I went out of the subway and there was a mall full of French companies like Dior and Louis Vuitton and it made my global city fandom skyrocket!! I went to two stores to get souvenirs and I also got a donut from a place near the subway!! It was very fun to walk around!!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 15 January 2024

Amazing retail experience, high end brands and so many people. It's quite incredible with a great view of the huge Uniqlo store from atop the garden level on the roof opposite. I don't think anyone should visit Tokyo without visiting Ginza.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 March 2024
- Brun066Florence, Italy13,632 contributionsThere's no Chuo-dori monopoly in the field of the most prestigious shops; but its primacy seems untouched. We walked along Chuo-Dori in Ginza on a Monday at the end of July, so when the street wasn't closed to traffic. Furthermore, the day was particularly hot. However, in mid-afternoon the temperature dropped significantly, so we enjoyed our strolling; which started from the Yuracucho stop on the Yamanote Line, and ended at Shiodome. Only in a few cases did we enter the shops, preferring to observe everything from the street. We were thus able to see first-hand the outstanding role of Ginza (and its main street, Chuo-dori) in shaping itself as a place for prestigious shops, large fashion houses (often present here with gigantic buildings), but also small historic shops. The role of absolute excellence of Chuo-dori, almost a monopoly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, in terms of the most prestigious shops, seems to me to have been quite weakened in recent decades, to the benefit of districts such as Shibuya; but its primacy still seems undisputed.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 September 2024

Ginza is an absolute Tokyo gem, among my favorites. It's a place where time seems to stand still as I immerse myself in its cafes, shops, restaurants, and iconic department stores. Every visit to Tokyo is incomplete without dedicating a few days to Ginza, a hub of culture and luxury. It's where I can truly savor the essence of this vibrant city, and I could happily spend endless days discovering its treasures.

Nearly every city has one. Designer names, beautiful roads and a place where the rich come to shop. Ginza however, stands out for me. There is something about the atmosphere, the beautiful architecture of the buildings and just observing the fashion of the elegant Japanese ladies that I love. Nice to browse even if it is out of your budget. Amongst the luxury designer names, you can also find lovely boutique shops and well-known Japanese brands like MUJI. There are also a host of eateries. A breath of fresh air from the busy streets of Shinjuku and Shibuya.

This is were the high end retailers are along with some large department stores and the Nissan showcase car showroom. You can’t walk ten minutes without hearing the road from some super car. Very close to the Shimbashi train station so was very easy for us to navigate around. We did manage to find a German beer house so that rounded it all of.
My favourite district in Tokyo.

I love the neon lights flickering...
I love modern city life, but I refrain from shopping.
I observe and sense what ultra city can offer except buying & shopping.
The shopping outside views are all awesome, a result of hard work and affluent.
Good to visit.

Area with all the big brands, When this is your thing go there. We enjoyed the nice cafe (sorry forgot the name) best with their nice cakes. And just before the flyover the game-store, you can play yourself all kind of games they even have a race circuit on the 3th or 4th floor where you can race against each other (there is a small surcharge).

If you are in the Ginza area on Sunday, this is a great time to take advantage of the "walking street" that becomes available until 6 pm. I Walking down the main street is a great way to visit the many restaurants and shops in the area and helps break up the crowd. The Ginza area has something for everyone, from the bright neon lights and high end stores to the local back alley restaurants and shops. Definitely worth a visit of a few hours or more.

I went to the Kabuki show in Ginza without any advance booking, but we had no issue getting tickets. We had to stand in the theater, but it was unique experience. The show was fun and impressive. After the show, my family and I had sushi for lunch. Everything we got was great. Unfortunately, rainy weather followed our lunch. However, it is still a must-do in Tokyo.

Hi, so is the Ginza shopping area considered an area where you find great deals? Thanks.
Written 22 June 2019
I wouldn't consider it an "outlet" shopping area. It is all high end, lots of cash shopping with the exception of a few stores like Uniqlo.

mau tanya dunks, utk crossing ginza itu patokannya apa yah? dan sweet paradise itu dilantai berapa kah..?? mohon info nya.. tks..
Written 6 October 2017
Happy hunting... 👍👍👍

I did not eat much at Ginza. But all drinks within Tokyo are more or less the same. There are a lot pf vending machines as well for cheaper drinks.

Can you recommend some reasonable places to stay near Ginza?

I stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel not in Ginza but Kyobashi. This is newer and is a quick walk to Ginza. Loved the cleanliness and the attention that the staff gave us.
