This is a monument to the many Koreans who were mainly slaves of the Japanese during the war. Even today there are tensions between both countries over the war.

The Korean victims were mostly captives, slaves brought to Japan by the military. As such, their story has not been told; it doesn't cast the nation of Japan in a positive light and the nation is notoriously poor at admitting guilt or showing remorse. So...More

This is worth seeing whilst you stroll round the park, as a memorial to Korean victims. It has a turtle / tortoise at its base, plus colourful cranes.

Among the many memorials within the Peace Park is one dedicated to the people of Korea who lost their lives in the Atomic explosion, working or living in the city at the time, and not commemorated until 1970 with the construction of this monument.
