Free entry. Interesting walk and the gardens are beautiful particularly in spring time. Good views of Fukuoka.

We then walked back to Hakata - about an hour of a flat, easy walk with things to see and do.

A good active day out

There isn't too much to see as hardly anything is left of the castle buildings. However, the view from the castle hill is great and it's a nice park to walk around for a bit.

Fukuoka Castle is an exceptional site offering a blend of historical intrigue and stunning vistas. Its well-preserved grounds and structures provide an enriching glimpse into the past. The castle's free admission is an excellent bonus, and the breathtaking views of the city are truly priceless. This attraction is a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the rich history and beauty of Fukuoka. Highly recommended!

A bit of a disappointment visually. However, it is a historical monument so the walk through what remains is steeped in history. There weren't many visitors around and there was quite a lot of restoration work going on when I visited so some parts were inaccessible. What remains is mostly the stonework that forms the foundations for the main parts of the castle; the keeps, which are missing. Worth a visit if, like me, you are a history buff and love Japanese castles

The best bit was the Main Gate, because after that there wasn't much we could find and there were three of us. We subsequently discovered that there isn't much left.

In other words - don't bother

Walking through the park to the castle was so invigorating. People were all so pleasant and helpful. Transportation from our hotel to the castle was very easy using the subway system.

All bathrooms were spotless. On all of our walks in Japan we could not find one garbage can. But the cities we visited Fukuoka and Nagasaki was spotless, so clean.

Large grounds, which I imagine at the right time of the year will be filled with colour and perfume. Great view across the city from the highest point and lots of raptors flying around. I couldn't identify them.

Would be lovely in spring when the cherry blossom is in bloom. We spent some time looking around this place and found it very informative and interesting. From the top floor you have a good view of the surroundings.

as some people wrote - it is nice place to stroll around and enjoy the area and the park. There are many much better Japanese castles - but if you are limited to Fukuoka or first timer in japan that will be nice start.
