At the time of my visit, the main temple/viewing balcony was undergoing renovations and it will likely take a year at least so bear that in mind. It's still worth going because the area has many restaurants and souvenir shops and it's quite lively. I...More

Beautiful temple up on the hills. Steep walk, but worth it. We were there during the fall and the colors of the foliage were gorgeous. Highly recommended.

Again, if your in Kyoto you have to have been there once. Absolutely stunning. Unfortunately until 2020 covered up due to Restauration work but still an amazing place to visit with amazing views.

Sadly, the main temple was under repairs. Otherwise, this is a really beautiful place. Would come back again one day after it is restored to see it's full glory.

I was put a high expectation when visit the Kiyomizudera Temple. And it turns into a "just okay" visit. First, we stop at Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, as it was mentioned as the nearest station. And indeed it was a 20 minutes walking uphill. well, thanks to...More

Superb scenery, especially at night at falls season. It is better to have a guide that can speak English to explain whole things inside it

I think we spent there about two hours and I don't think we missed on anything major. I wouldn't try to do it in just one hour, because there is definitely a lot to see.

The scaffolding was still there on part of the temple. I thought there was plenty to still see...very beautiful structures still to see. I would still recommend seeing it. Everything inside was still open and accessible also.

the buses in Kyoto are the best way of accessing most sights, including kiyomizu-dera. your hotel should be able to give you the bus TT or go to information at Kyoto station.
