The exhibit of Yoyoi Kusama's art is spectacular. I had never heard of her, but it was recommended by a Japanese friend. The old house, the garden, the pumpkins, the mirror room, and Fuji prints were all great. And there is a wonderful museum cafe...More

We only saw the kusama exhibition, there wasn’t anything else. The exhibit was very interesting. The shop is very expensive like any other museum shop. The garden is beautiful.

I love Yoyoi Kusama's artworks so when I heard that a new museum with her artworks opened, I had to visit. I was even more interested when I read that the museum is housed in an old building in Gion. When I visited, there was...More

We did not know about this museum until we saw posters for the Kusama exhibit there posted around the Gion neighborhood. What a lovely place! First: the building is a historic 100-year-old traditional structure with sliding screens and tatami mats (no shoes allowed). There are...More

The only place we visited that had fairly aggressive touts giving you fliers and trying to hustle you into the building. Not a good sign. Did not experience any of the shows. Might be good but the external atmosphere said, "Beware." At least to us....More

If you are a Yayoi Kusama fan, this museum is a can’t miss. It is the largest private collection of Yayoi’s work and includes some of her most iconic works.

I visited a fantastic exhibition of Yayoi Kusama on July, like no other I've ever seen. Very well curated. Plus, the gardens of the museum are beautiful.

Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko"
in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and
entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners,
Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with
gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion
