With little time in Kyoto (one day), my wife and I had to choose visits carefully. This impressive residence/castle does not disappoint. Very accessible on a main road (some Kyoto attractions require heavy uphill walking), the residence is very impressed and well set up for...More

First stop on our morning tour of Kyoto. A great start. Wonderful place and the tour guide gave a great insight into its history. I would have liked to stay for a bit longer, but that’s the trade off of being with a tour group....More

It’s one of the more expensive visits at 100yen but worth it. The “nightingale floor” is good to experience and the walk around the grounds are good. Note that the palace at the rear is being renovated so you can see that.

My friend, having visited Europe said to me, "At some point, a castle is just another castle." Well, yes, and no. There's something beautiful about every castle, and NIjo is certainly no exception. But then again, if you arrive here in August, purchase tickets to...More

Quite enjoyed this castle. There isn’t much inside - you’re looking at reproduced wall paintings which are striking. The gardens are lovely. It wasn’t very expensive to get in though and it’s a nice piece of different history.

Nice castle with murals and some Eglish signage. Like most of Japan's castles much is reconstructed and reproduced to create an attaction. However, the reconstruction and reproductions are authentic and true to the original and the nightengale floors were interesting. There are two types of...More

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its

bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home

is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and

It's not on a construction list I found but I would maybe check with the front desk of your hotel if they know. From the review you refer to, it sounds like the castle is under restoration but the rest of the grounds are... More
