Stopped for a visit on the way from Chengdu to Leshan to see the giant Buddha. Is interesting to see for the buildings and to give an impression of how an ancient Chinese town may have looked. But is very commercialised and packed with tourists. Still worth a visit.

I did a half day tour with a guide to Huanglongxi, we strolled along the streets and the river, ate a good lunch, and joined a 30 min. boat ride to a temple, came back to the town by walking along the river in a rural scenery. After visiting a few ancient towns around China my impression is that the... More

This ancient town is only 30 km from Chengdu. This town has 1700 years of history. The guide said many parts of town are replicas. We followed the river to explore this old town. The town is small but full of shops, restaurants and tourists. There was a noodle place try to attract customers by performing the noodle cutting act,... More

Here once an important marketplace since Qing dynasty, full of souvenirs stalls, restaurants and shops. There are plenty of tea houses and places for eat and relax. Also check out Gulong temple and Chaoyin temple for their ancient, beribboned banyan.

China has plenty of ancient towns. This one is in Chengde. It's has old buildings conserved and lease out to businesses. I felt the whole place became too commercialised and it's has lost the touch and feel of an old town. But it's cleaned and well maintained. There are lots of restaurants and shops selling same old stuffs, eg local... More

I have been to several 'ancient towns' in China and personally I think this one is most memorable. Most other ancient towns would be frequented by backpackers etc. with bars and western style restaurants. This one is quite traditionally Chinese. The repaired and reconstructed ancient buildings still maintain their old time glory with beautiful carving and decorations. The streets are... More

A very beautiful place with some ancient buildings and a clean and clear stream flowing through. There are a lot of shops around selling food and souvenirs. Great place except for the toilet facilities. There is a courtyard there where you can watch a face changing mask show etc to while away the time.

It took an hour from Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station, but still had to walk 5-10mins to enter the ancient town. Admission is free. Its worth the visit, though the town is small, it is very well preserved. There is heaps of places to eat and buy souvenirs. Found a place that make a one strand noodle that fills the bowl,... More

We got there from Xinnanmen coach station in Chengdu (line 3). Took about 1hr on way there and about 1hr 45 minutes on way back due to traffic. Journey is mainly on Jinnan road dual carriageway & we arrived at the town surprisingly quickly once we'd got outside Chengdu. The coach station is about a 10 minute walk from the... More

Huang Longxi Ancient town is probably the most famous tourists' town in Sichuan nowadays. For many Chinese tourists, especially people from Sichuan, they really like to visit this town, because it has many local foods for people to try, chinese traditional antient buildings, green trees everywhere and a creek running though the main town with cool water in summer, the...
