This is an old town, which is not as popular (yet) as Fenghuang or Lijiang. It's smaller and there's not much to do except to tour a tiny area around the waterfall, with preserved old buildings on both sides of the river, an old bridge and an interesting, under the waterfall walkway. Was surprised how dead the town was. Rice Tofu - nothing special (RMB 3.00). Someone from our tour group asked a local why was the town so quiet. He told us that since they started charging an entrance fee, people stopped coming. In addition, the one location to take photos of the waterfall, there is a charge if you what... More

But just strolling around you get a view of a way of life that is fading. Old ladies still laze under quilts, toddlers still run around... More

My group tour stopped there while travelling from Fenghuang ancient city to Zhangjiajie. The original name of the town was "Wangcun" or something like that but became known as "Hibiscus Town" or "Furong" after a 1960s or 70s movie which featured it. The old part on a slope with its old buildings,streets and antiques shops are well worth a visit.... More
