What beautiful artistry is woven into rugs! Unbelievable! Our only regret was not to see someone actually hooking. We did enjoy seeing how the design/picture is laid out on the backing to get an idea of all the intricacy. WOW! What patience and love go into these HOURS/DAYS/MONTHS of work!

I was very impressed with the museum. I have been there 3 times over the past 3 years and each time was completely different and just as enjoyable. I am not a rug hooker yet I was surprised by the incredible talent and designs.

While I had to talk my travel companions into visiting this museum (I am a rug hooker) they all came away inspired. The men were amazed at the artefacts that related to rug hooking, they enjoyed looking at all sorts of turn of the century machinery to make rug patterns, as well as the interesting subject matter of the mats... Probably a bit more for the ladies, we visited this museum as a part of a Caravan Maritime tour. Well displayed historical prospective of a folk art evolving to a finer art form. The "hooked" potrraits of famous people in history was produced 100 stitches per square inch at a time. Everyone has to appreciate the effort involved. The live... More

I have been to this Museum a number of times and have found the staff, mostly volunteers, to be absolutely wonderful. I've attended a number of hook-ins as well as hooking courses. To be surrounded by all the beautiful hooked mats is a rug hookers dream. There is also antique hooking and spinning equipment on display. The Museum is the... More

I think my husband was a little unsure of this choice...... But it is totally worth it. The staff are super friendly and the chance to see the heritage and history and art af these amazing people is a gift. I had no idea rug hooking could look so much like paintings. This type of art is something I want... More

We almost missed this gem, literally backed up 150 feet. I am always complaining my husband isn't spontaneous when traveling, but he earned brownie points here. This museum keeps on going with well organized and beautiful pieces of history one interesting thing about the hooked rugs is they appear worn, because they were well used. These rugs often offered one... More

The museum contains a variety of hooked rugs, both historical and contemporary. It is a fascinating array of the different techniques and styles used in rug making. There is also a large quantity of rugs for sale. The volunteers on duty were very friendly and informative.
