Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad is a Spanish era fortification overlooking Umatac Bay. The picturesque spot offers a step back in time with canons and ruined bunkers. Sweeping views of the southern mountains offer a glimpse of Umatac Bridge and the bay.

Drive around Guam and you will find so many tourist spots. We found this place accidentally and explore it, there is a clean restroom in the area. May 2019

In order to truly exprience Guam, you need to get away from the resorts and jet skis and take a drive around the southern end of the island. At Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, there is an amazing view of Umatac and the ocean, but this place is so much more than that. See and maybe even ride a carabao. Tour what's left of an old Spanish fort and learn how important Guam really was to Pacific Ocean trading back in the days before planes made crossing the ocean. Meet with the extremely friendly Big John, try a banana, starfruit and some coconut juice. Big John is like the chamorro uncle you never had, he is so friendly and knowledgeable and you can tell he genuinely loves his job and the island of Guam. My family lived on Guam for 2 years and this was one of our favorite places to visit.

My wife grew up on the islands so we decided to take a drive around the island as she did when she was a child when visitors would come to the island.

We stopped at Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad for a photo. What an incredible view and a great photo opportunity, not to mention a great old fort.

Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, near Umatac, Guam, is a fortification built by the Spanish between 1802 and 1819. It was the fourth of four fortifications that protected an anchorage for Spanish galleons transiting between Acapulco, Mexico and the Philippines, a route that fell out of use in 1815 with Mexican independence.

The fort was made into a park following World War II. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

On a beautiful day drive around the island - its a nice drive - you will come across this great view and the remains of the fort.

Interesting stop off point for a quick history lesson of Guam and photo taking as its elevated above sea level. Not as populated as Lover's point and no charges either. worth the stop if you intend driving about the island.

it was probably one of the better attractions we saw. Read about the Spanish history of this place first to understand the importance of this Fort. It was a hot day and the breeze up there was wonderful as we enjoyed the view of Umatac Bay. Magellan landed there in 1521. Impressive, if you ask me.

A great view of the ocean and Umatac Bay. Go between 11 am and 2 pm on a sunny day for the best color in the ocean.

My friend and I went to the old fort merely for a scenic photograph. What we got was a cultural experience thanks to Big John. This tall, mohawked Chamorro man welcomed us to Umatac with fruit that grows in the village. We drank coconut milk straight from the coconut, ate the flesh, had fresh bananas and starfruit. We thanked him for our afternoon snack and gave him a tip for his generosity. Then we were in for a big surprise... a carabao ride! His water buffalo took us up to the fort for a one-of-a-kind view of Utumac. This gentle beast (Betsy) gave us each a scenic ride that we will never forget.

This is a must see! make a point to get here. The fort is mostly ruins but there is a very cool watchtower to visit, a lot of the fort wall and three very old bronze cannons. The fort strategically overlooks the bay (and that's why it was so important at the time) but the views you get today are beautiful!
Magellan landed before you in Umatac Ba. travel back in time....wander! have fun.
