The Museum of Pays Chatillonnais Tresor de Vix is an essential stop on the Celts' road. The tomb of the Lady of Vix was discovered in January 1953. It is the most prestigious princely burial place of the late first iron period (around 500BC). The Lady was lying on a burial wagon; she was adorned with precious jewels; among which a gold torque, a masterpiece of Celtic goldsmith's work. Next to her stood the famous bronze vase; its size is extraordinary (1.64m high) and of wonderful quality. It is one of the most impressive expressions of Greek art. The mysterious Lady of Vix invites one to a journey through space and time, from her tomb to her palace, along the walls which protected her town, and back to the distant worlds of the Greeks and the Etruscans.

The numerous discoveries made in the Chatillonnais region are unveiled as you pass through the exhibition rooms to continue the journey from Gallo-Roman times to the 19th century.

The treasures of Vix and their history are compelling. Such a remarkable find and history. The location where the tomb and its treasures were discovered is just a short drive from Châtillon-sue-Seine and provides more insight to the deiscovery.

A genuinely amazing brand new museum for such a small city. The masterpiece is Vase de Vix, manufactured in Sicily in 530BC. There is much more to see.. Allow 1-2 hours for the visit!

Both tripadvisor and the Rough Guide gave a good write-up for this, so despite having already "done" the Alésia Museum, and having a fair drive to get there, we gave it a go. Happily! An incredible main event: the Tresure of Vix, a 6th century BC princess' burial possessions, are exceptional, as is the story of their unearthing and interpretation,... More

Okay, so this is the #1 reason to come to Chatillon-sur-Seine. The museum is beautiful and presents all its interesting material very well. And of course, the prize is the Treasor--and it is worth seeing. I especially liked the solid gold torque! Beautiful, and so representative of what an amazing crossroads of commerce this area must have been in 400... More

Very well organised and interesting museum. The most spectacular exhibit being the Vase of Vix. There is plenty to see and is of interst to young and old. The museum also runs workshops for children on wednesdays

This musee really is worth seeking out for the amazing burial urn of the Iron Age "Princess of Vix". Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The rest of the museum has a reasonably interesting collection of Gallo-Roman artifacts from the area, as well as other later items, but it's the Princess's treasures that are of world significance.
