    Step Forth
Whilst in Dharamshala we visited Kangra and its fort, an amazing structure on a hilltop which according to history remained undefeated by the Moguls. There are a lot of steps to walk up so if you are less mobile, do give this a miss. The views from the top of the fort are amazing. We also saw some ancient carvings of deities etched into stone. A special place to visit steeped in history.

Fort with a lot of history
We climbed this fort on a very hot day and time (38 degree Celsius), hence probably found this a lot more tiring. Having said that the fort has a chequered history and the audio guide was helpful in understanding the fort much better. Most of the fort is in ruins which adds to the charm.

One of the oldest Fort in mountains
We have visited Kangra Fort with 10 and 3 years old, and whatever I say is not enough. It's not a place for fuzzy people who have high expectations but for calm and peace lovers. We visited this Fort, especially for Aadinath temple at top, which is almost 4000 years old. Though Fort is not in great condition after the earthquake, it's still a good place to view. You must go if you have children who are fond of rich history.

This was the second time we went into this Fort with a few of our friends to show them around. The fort is well maintained and has multiple vantage points that provide good views and photo shoot opportunities. There is a provision of potable and free drinking water at the top. The audio guide is available at the ticket counter and one is advised to avail of the same for a fruitful experience of the fort. There is a private museum of the kings adjacent to the fort and one should visit this museum also for a complete experience.

Must visit fort when in HImachal Pradesh. It has lots of history- get an audio guide and listen to it. Had visited once in 2015 and revisited recently again.

Fort closes by sunset- a museum in the campus closes even earlier by 5.30. There's another museum housing artifacts of royal family a few hundred meters away- do plan to visit the same as well.

Takes about an hour two explore in comfort. Best to plan a visit in afternoon, visit the two museums, climb to top, stay till sunset and return.

View of the valley is nice. Fort walls are largely intact but buildings inside are in ruins, only few portions are intact.

No shops available. Toilets available near the entrance. Carry water and other essentials. Entry fee is Rs 25 for Indians, 300 for foreign guests.

The ruins are an indication how grand the original monument would have been. There are no guides available, so please take audio guide if available. The ticket is ₹ 20 payable by online mode only. Visit only if you have ample time as it is quite a climb and lot to see. One gets many good views from the summit and also offers ample photographic opportunities. There is a museum and public amenities also. The place is quite clean and tidy. The central place is a venue for many film shootings also.

A place with historical importance has been ignored. The place is located at the confluence of the banganga and Manjhi rivers and the fort overlooks the vast Kangra Valley. The fort was conqured by Muhmud Ghazni in 1009 CE. The same was under british occupation when Maharaja Ranjeet Singh was defeated by them. being one of the centrally protected monument the same has been neglected even when it comes to basic facilties like Toilet. Govt of HP can start a light and sound show to show its mantle to the world.

This old fort is about 16 kms from Dharamshala and just on the outskirts of Kangra City.
Visit only if you are keenly interested in archeology and history, otherwise it’s only goos for some scenic views from the top of the fort.
Not advisable for elderly and differently abled people as the walkway passage is long uphill and rough.
Entry ticket is just ₹20/- per head and free for under 15 yrs.

Looming large over the horizon, the Fort is an easy climb. The audio support is very good and worth taking it on the climb. You get a perspective of the eras gone by and the valour of Indians of yore.
Excellent view from the top!

A ruined fort which was restored after 1905 earthquake and it was build by Rajput.
We hired a audio guide for explain but vain hope due to non functioning.
The location of the fort on a hilltop adds to its charm. There is a bit of walking to be done to reach top of the Fort from where you’ll get beautiful view of the Dhauladhar ranges.
The fort is  protected monument under Archiological Survey of India. Entry tickets of Rs.25/-.

A pleasant hour spent walking round Changra Fort, and there are some ancient relics and stone carvings remaining. Lovely views from the top. It is not crowded. An hour is enough time to see everything.

An amazing place to walk around and soak in the history and beautiful views. Beware of the baby monkeys! They're adorable but everywhere... I recommend you go around time of closing. I met some people who went at 5:30/6 for sunset.
