- Ben FBloomington, Indiana1,817 contributionsLush and MeaningfulI didn’t realize this park’s tragic commemoration until after visiting on my trip, but now it makes my experience here even more fulfilling. The paths through this modest green space near CKS Memorial Hall are well-kept and peaceful, where locals practice Falun Gong and kids play and run. There are countless monuments and statues to respect. I highly encourage all visitors to cut through 228 Peace Park en route to the Memorial Hall and other destinations.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 10 March 2024

This park had a lot things to do, like jog, just sit, read book, mini concert or just saw animals (i found many things here). This place was comfortable and peaceful!Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 September 2024

IOn 28 February 1947, the native Taiwanese rebelled against the harsh rule of the Chinese governor. The rebellion failed, no-one knows how many people were killed. Their sacrifices have not been forgotten, in this 2-28 Peace Memorial Park.. It is easy to find, it's near the National Taiwan University Hospital Station on the MRT Red Line.

The park is very suitable for a peaceful walk. It's also right beside the Taipei MRT
entrance, makes it quite easy to reach there. The scenery is various between day and night. You could take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful lake at the daytime. The monument with light on is a great landmark that is impressive especially at night.

The architect good job of capturing openness with no tension. Close to Chang Kai shek Memorial and NTU Hospital, it Has nice strolling areas and a few ponds. Not dense like the botanical Garden But still a pleasant place to visit.

Whenever I grab lunch in Taipei I usually stop and sit here to eat it. There's some fairly abundant wildlife roaming around the park and sitting by the pond is very relaxing. The museum is worth a visit as well. Even though it's in central Taipei one feels like you're in a totally separate space just walking around this park.

I visited this park as part of a walking tour. The park is large with lots of greenery and paths, although the main draw for the group was the namesake monument. This is a memorial to the February 28 incident when the Kuomintang nationalist government clamped down on political descent and initiated martial law.

These park is very much accessible from the MRT NTU Hospital Station. The park offers a peaceful place to stroll around or just sit down and relax. Some local folks are going here practicing Tai Chi and others are practicing Kung Fu. There are also a lot of monuments and installations to look at. Many pigeons and birds are flying around in the area and there are some friendly squirrels too.

The 228 Peace Memorial Park is located in the center of Taibei's government district. The location is not fortuitous. Late in the 1940s, after World War II had ended and the Chinese Nationalist (國民黨) government had relocated to island Taiwan, a particularly bad dispute over the island's governance erupted over a small instance involving a vendor and police. In the end, many native Taiwanese scholars, intellectuals, and prominent people were killed or incarcerated. Between that time and about 1986 (a very in-exact date), native Taiwanese often referred to the political and personal violence of that short time as the 228 Incident. Taiwan subsequently, in the late 1908s and 1990s, developed a thriving tradition of democratic political expression and practice. The 228 Peace Memorial Park is one codification of Taiwan's transformation. Instead of a semi-secret, whispered about in one's family living room, the 228 incident is now memorialized in the form of a prominent public park, complete with a pond, languid herons and ducks, always-busy pigeons, and teenagers practicing water-color painting. Black squirrels bounding from tree to tree across the grass add an industrious dimension. The 228 park is a nice place to visit. Tourists who want to remove themselves for a time from Taibei's frenetic back-and-forth will like this enclave in the city center. Others more aware of the island's polotical history will reflect on enormous changes that have occured during the past 50 years.
