We really enjoyed our trip to Treasure Hill. It felt very peaceful, perhaps more so because we went during heavy rain so there were no other tourists about, and we were able to poke in and out of the different shops and spaces and talk to some of the artists. A different side to the city really worth visiting - if you can find a time when it's quiet.

Take a walk around from the nearby metro station. It’s nice to see how artists all over the world put they’re art and how they live in such communities. Monday’s closed for tours...but just pass by the security and be quiet.

I am not sure what the attraction here is.
Mostly closed stores without anyone around. Almost nothing was open and hardly anyone around.
It is also not that easy to get to.
Give it a skip and don’t waste your time.

We liked the place with all its little studios and art galleries. The atmosphere is relaxed and it's a cool place for taking pictures! It's a neighbourhood with lots of stairs and hidden corners so we just loved to wander around.

The place with its half-ruined concrete buildings is quite peculiar. There are a number of galleries and the village has an interesting athmosphere. It's worth spending there an hour.

Very unique setting, online articles said this is a government rebuilt project that turned old decrepit housing into an artist commune. Looks like Brazilian favela minus the violence.

I thought it was quite well designed and organized, lots of signs telling you where the artists/houses are. Outside each house there's a sign that tells you whether you can go in, or whether it is occupied.

Some "natives" still live there and there are signs that tell you their stories.

Unfortunately when I was there in October there weren't many artists there working, so it was more sight seeing than an "art" trip

I have been to Taipei for a few times, I planned for an artsy cultural trip this time round. I typed 'art Taipei' in Google and found this place. It was not an easy find, and not near a metro station at all, but it was worth all the walk. If you don't want to waste time or energy walking there, a taxi ride from the closet metro station (Gongguan Station) would save time and energy finding the place.
Basically, this is a community with artists living in it, on a hillside. It was on the way to being demolished until it was taken over by the cultural department to develop what they call a 'poor artist village' within the hillside community. The residence who stayed in the area was mostly those who have stayed here after the war and built most of their houses by themselves. The way the village was managed made it quite attractive to walk through. Residence area was blocked off to respect residence daily life.
I went with my mum and we both felt that it's a hidden gem within the city area. You get to understand old 'city village' culture and at the same time see art studios. A lot of the art studios were not opened, but a few shops and exhibitions were on, which was enough for me . Some houses was left ruined (some had artwork in them), which made the place feel a bit more historical.
Overlooking a greenery park, temple on the side and roads and bridges at the far end makes this village a very nice walk. The park in front of it featured a river, which locals fish in and tennis practicing court sprayed with bright graffiti. It feels very nice to have cooperated the culture and community together. Going there on a hot day (although not summer) was quite tough, but there are a lot of open areas to sit in, so it is quite relaxing.
I would recommend this place if you like seeing local culture and art, but it is not an easy walk for city girls and boys.

I'd imagine this place is great for sunny summer evenings (since it's located near the river and has a smaller park there). But in honesty- I thought there was going to be more and therefore I was let down once I arrived. I didn't know where to go or what to see due to the poor map once there. So maybe read more about it before going there to be prepared.

I think the gongguan area is a nice place to visit rather than treasure hill.

It was a Wednesday I visited and the place was almost deserted. I think i met the above reviewer on the same day and share some sentiments. Very quiet and only 1 exhibit on. I was lucky and met one artist. I think it might be best visited when something is on. It is a cute neighbourhood with old winding streets and nice to walk around. The contrast of the freeways and grey industrial highrise around this oasis of calm is interesting. I hope it reaches it's potential as it's good idea.

went here on a Wednesday and only 3 studios were open - one was post it notes that visitors could write on and the other two were subpar. Interesting buildings, but no real art scene, then again, the Taipei art scene is rather dead at this point. Not worth a visit unless you are in Taipei for a period of time. There are a lot of hills and stairs for those who may have mobility issues, FYI.
