Camera haven

A place if you want to have additional gear for your camera (with reasonable price).
Every corner lies a camera shop that offers both brand new and semi-used/second hand camera gears

Recommended, but initially for orientation !!
Jul 2019

The Camera Street and surroundings in Taipei are a must for every serious photographer, not to go to buy right away, but to visit shop after shop for orientation and pleasure. The prices turned out to be roughly the same as in Japan and about the same or higher than, for example, in the Netherlands.
The range is one-sided and consists mainly of system cameras, lenses and accessories. The cameras appeared to be packaged in foil and no working cameras could be tried / tested in the visited stores.
The lowest price for a Canon G1X Mk 3 turned out to be US $ 780 in July 2019 including a 5% foreign buyer discount. Not one of the stores visited had the camera in stock.
When purchasing new equipment, no old equipment is exchanged. There is only one store in used *no digital* just behind the Camera Street sign.

The stores that purchase / sell used cameras and accessories can be found in section 1 Xingheng Road and section 2 Civic Blvd, MRT exit 1, Guhangua Market, Zhongzheng District.
For a very good looking Canon G1X Mark 2 with accessories, US $ 110 was offered.
Price lists were consulted in all Camera Street area stores visited, but only in two stores was the price quoted and meaningful information provided.

Finally, in addition to authorised import, there is also unauthorised import, which is called parallel or grey import and is legal. The prices of goods imported in parallel are lower and the warranty conditions differ.

Nothing much, I was expecting a lot of second hand store with vintage film cameras.

Nothing much, I was expecting a lot of second hand store with vintage film cameras. Unfortunately, most of them are new digital cameras with reasonable price. Nothing amazing.

Quan Tai is the true savior
Mar 2018 • Friends
During ny trip, my handstrap got broken and dropped my camera. A panny 12-35mm lens got a dent and cant be rotated and basically the lens got blurred or idk, the first ring near the front lens is diagonal and locked. I was so sad tbh. Heartbroken because its just less a month old.

Little did I know i was staying near the famous Camera Street and thanking a certain post about a camera repair shop (post about seeing a hassleblad lens getting fixed, bless this post).

I hurriedly searched for this shop. No google maps location so just remember it's 60 Boai Rd. If you see a fresh fruit store, just cross the street.

The guy doesn't speak english and he made a phone call for someone to interpret for him. Which is nice. Said the cost will be 1500NT if fixed. Compared to the philippines, i'd prolly get more headache and would price me nearly a new lens with trust issues that they may do monkey business.

But anyway, i trust the review, i need to. They mentioned returning by 3pm or they'll send me an email on the status.

Happily exited the shop and continued with my city exploring. I returned to the shop at 7:15pm and finding it's closed. My heart sank. It says business only til 7pm. :'(

Panic, I tried looking for a phone booth to call them since I dont have a local number sim. But it's not working!

To my desperate move, I tried asking for help to their neighbor shop. And they really helped me to contact them. I'm so grateful. At first, it was dead lines on the displayed numbers. Probably no one answering. But they try asking around and checking online. So grateful. When I got to connect to the wifi, i just received their email update. Oh what a roll of circumstances. Anyway, camera's in tiptop shape. So happy! Taiwanese people are the best ✨♥️✨

Camera salvation at Quan Tai.

Want a camera area that gives you plenty of options? Come here...
Jan 2017 • Solo
Although I suppose that the many camera shop merchants along this short street have colluded on prices, if you want a camera and all the attachments, come here. As per the Taiwanese thing about putting things in the same place in the city, be it cameras, computer, jade jewellery, clothing, night market foods - it's definitely worth the visit to each of them.
So check this place out, and on the way (best to walk although scootering is great too), grab a Tw pastry or latte and enjoy the smells, the Chinese atmosphere here, and get a good camera system that will suit your needs.

Good area if you are in need of camera equipment
Aug 2017
They have several, and I mean SEVERAL, stores offering everything imaginable in the line of photography equipment. I arrived in the morning and more than half of the stores were still closed, so I can't tell you much about prices. To me, it doesn't compare to Akihibara district in Tokyo, but then I didn't make it up Civic Blvd to the larger stores. I probably wouldn't return here unless I needed emergency gear.

Good place to visit if your are camera/photography enthusiast
Oct 2016 • Couples
Think of a small suburb with lots of different camera stores. You'll find most digital cameras and accessories in this area. All spread within close walking distance. As I am a very passionate camera enthusiasts, I found it amusing to see all these shops. There would be about 20+ different shops here.

This would be a good place to go, if you're looking for a particular photography part or pieces of gear.

Taiwan Camera Street
Sep 2016 • Solo
If you are looking second hand or film cameras or very chip prices - it is not the place.
In Taiwan all chip and secondhand is on the web with quite fast shipping.

The place is nice and you have plenty of shops with most known brands such as Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and etc... Only one shop there offered digital medium format camera.
The prices are the same is in US.

Variety of choices from hundreds of stores in camera street. I was looking to buy go pro session, checked like 7 diff stores but the prices are just the same like in the malls with the exception of 1 store that is NT$100 lower. I say it is still cheaper to purchase it online.
