On my recent trip to Kaohsiung , Taiwan, my daughter and I had a wonderful experience at chill chill
Kaohsiung project. This is a farm to table project which begins with a tour of Breeze Market which is a farmers market displaying locally grown produce. We then went to a
beautiful cooking school where we were taught the preparation of local dishes by a professional chef. I highly recommend chill chill Kaohsiung project if you are in Kaohsiung. It was a very memorable experience.

Our first ride is an original farmers market. It is not a bustling outdoor market. Numerous vegetables and fruits stands greeted us as we entered the area. They are locally grown. I like to get off the beaten path when I explore Kaohsiung. There was a tour guide who was nice to everyone. I stayed in the market all morning, and had a great time. Undoubtedly, this is the best project that I've seen so far last year.
Then, we had a wonderful kitchen class. The chef Knew a lot of interesting things and how to make funny stories out of them. Just come and check out the class. You will find it fun and easy to learn how to cook his way. I thoroughly enjoyed this journey.

A friend and I took this class while visiting Kaohsiung. It was a real highlight of the trip. I've done cooking classes everywhere from Erope to Asia, and this is hands down the best class I have ever done. Not to mention also very entertaining. Even though we booked this class from overseas we directly received a confirmation email from their team. The entire experience was just amazing.
Everything we made in the class was delicious and the amuse bouche in between the cooking were beautifully presented and yummy! The market tour was interesting, and we were able to sample a bunch of interesting organic fruits that I had never seen before. The immaculate attention to detail that the chef Xander payed to every single aspect of each dish is outstanding. I have never learnt so many tips and techniques in a single day.
In short: Informative and fun farmer's market tour + great place for class + delicious food = farm to table project

If you have a free day in Kaoshiung and are wondering what to do, wonder no more! This farm to table project tour is hands-down the best use of your time and money. The team are friendly and patient, delight to spend some time with, starting with a trip to the local farmer's market for a tour and some shopping for fresh ingredients. To interact with the local farmers and feel their passion of the food they grows was interesting. To taste various fruits and other organic produces was another highlight in this tour. Once you get back to the class kitchen, though, the fun really starts! Chef Xander clearly knows his stuff and he makes the entire process of prep and cooking a lot of fun. He is an incredible chef and it really was fine dining, but made in a very accessible way.
The whole experience was fun and informative, I learned about Taiwanese cuisine’s indigenous influences, cultural infusions, agricultural produce and ingredients. If you visit Kaohsiung, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy a day filled with culture, history, and gastronomy.

I joined their farm to table project last month. This is an excellent project that any visitor to Taiwan with an interest in food shouldn't miss. It’s a farmer’s market tour with a Taiwanese cooking class. The visit to the local farmer’s market was really interesting, informative and educational. The market guide Colin spoke excellent English. He explained to us about the 24 solar terms, which have governed the agricultural arrangements among Chinese and Taiwanese for more than 2000 years, and how Taiwanese eat according to the terms-not only in order to stay healthy and but live in harmony with the land you live. During the tour of the market, Colin pointed out things of interest and explaining about local food and then we had the opportunity to walk around soaking up the atmosphere and taking in the sights, sounds and smells with the bonus of being able to try different types of fruit. The variety of dishes we cooked at the cooking class was great. Each dish was explained and demonstrated in a really fun way then it was off to our cooking stations to attempt to replicate them under the watchful eye and guiding hand of chef Xander. Most importantly, all the ingredients were freshly from the farmer’s market. The cost of the day was very reasonable considering the attention we received and the quality of the food. Ot was informative with a good balance of tutoring, cooking, culture experiencing and eatingI don't usually enjoy cooking but I genuinely enjoyed the day and it has triggered my interest in cooking Taiwanese food at home! I would recommend this event to anyone.

I attended their very first event in June and felt lucky that I did so, do not hesitate to book any of their future event, you will visit a local farmers' market with a friendly tour guide Colin in the morning, he shall introduce you the fresh ingredients in season, as well as the lovely local farmers. In the afternoon it's your chance to learn how to cook some Taiwanese style cuisines with slightly innovation twist. Overall it will be a great opportunity to experience Kaohsiung city from local's point of view, not to mention you get to try the tasty food and maybe make some new friends!

Gathering outside Fongshan West Station in the morning, I with my friend joined the event visiting the Breezemarket, an organic market. On the way to the market, the tour guide, Colin, explained the project aims and introduced the concept of the 24 Solar Terms to us. It is amazing! It is about the relationship between nature and human being.
It was a hot sunny day. We arrived round 10am and we could see the natural dyed cottons hung on the trees. The are stunning, especially in the contrast to the blue sky! Colin gave an introduction of the market and also the cottons to us at the entrance. And then, he lead us to every stall and chatted with the owners. They told us about their products and treated us fruit and drinks. We tried pineapple, banana, litchi, juice and traditional dessert.
SInce I and my friend had to go back to Taipei, we lamentably did not join the cooking part. But we brought fruits, rice, dessert and drinks in the end!
It is one of the event that I love and enjoy most in Taiwan. I definitely join again when I come to Kaohsiung next time and enourage those are planning to Kaohsiung to join this event. It is a must-join event!

I joined the activity in January, a cooperated project from Taiwanese and Japanese. They have created a Georgia Dinner set based on one of the Chef's travel experience. The local ingredients from South Taiwan, the creativity of Taiwanese and Japanese chefs, as well as the unique traveling presentation, created a fascinating night ! Highly recommend to check this place when you visit Kaohsiung!

What a great way to to spend time in Kaohsiung. We are a family of four, including two teenagers, and we've been to Kaohsiung before and see all the major sights. For this trip the forecast was for solid rain the whole time we were there so I was looking for stuff we could do indoors and came across Chill Chill Kaohsiung Project's 'Cook with a local chef' activity.
We spent a relaxed afternoon learning to cook three Taiwanese dishes with Chef Xander, a young local chef. Chill Chill also provided an English interpreter (Colin), who was fluent and really helpful. There were no pre-arranged group classes while we were there but we booked a private class, and thought the cost was really very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food we ate the end of it! Highlight recommended.
The next day we took Chill Chill' half-day field trip to Meinong, a famous Hakka village 45 mins outside Kaohsiung. Chill Chill picked us up in a taxi, and a local English- and Mandarin-speaking guide (Maggie) met us in Meinong. Even though it was raining (which restricted how much we could go around the village by foot), we still had a great time, making local tea, visiting the Hakka museum and house with a personal guide, and finishing the day with a great Hakka meal. Everything was included in the tour price, so we could just relax and enjoy the day. It was just our family, so the tour could also be tailored to what we were interested in. Would do the trip again in better weather!

End of Dec. I joined the "Farm to Table" project in 高雄, which introduces the Taiwan culture and history through the Fooding and Cooking. This time 10persons from in many parts of the world, Japan, Honkong, joined this project and enjoyed to learn traditional 冬至料理 like "Ginger duck hot pot", "Pickled Meinong White Jade Radish","Tanyaun with Bannana Cream and Roselle Syrup".
In the morning we went to the Breeze Market, one the most important organic farmers’ markets in Taiwan, and leaned about veggies and ingredients from farmers. Then we bring back it to the kitchen studio and leaned from the professional chef about the ancient wisdom of 24 solar terms of Taiwan foods.
This tour is guided in Mandarin and English.Several Young people who can speak English is supporting this project. Their passion and feelings to cherish 台湾農業and tradition, are thoroughly conveyed to me and other participant.
It was really nice project, and hope many Japanese will join this.(Next project will be hold next spring.)

Hello :
Thank you for your interest in chill chill kaohsiung project.
Now we are having 2 kinds of Taiwanese cooking projects. One is the “farm to table project”. It is a farmers’s market tour + Taiwanese cooking class, which you will be introduced and taste the seasonal produces of Kaohsiung from farm to table and learn the essence of Taiwanese culinary tradition. The project of this year will be held twice a month from August(on weekends).
The other cooking project is “cook with a local chef project”, it is a customized Taiwanese cooking class(2.5-3hr). In this project, you will be introduced the seasonal local ingredients and learn 3 traditional Taiwanese dishes step by step. The recipe could be a Kaohsiung street food recipe, a classic Taiwanese banquet dish, local peasant food, or a secret private course from a Kaohsiung mommy.
Except the food events, we also have some other tour like sunset/night bar harbor cruising in Kaohsiung and Hakka field tip in Hakka Village.
We're planning to have more project tours from this summer. Please follow us on our FB or website for the latest news.
