Top ways to experience Tamshui Old Street and nearby attractions

The area

Neighbourhood: Tamsui / Bali District
The enchanting Tamsui Old Street boasts the most beautiful Fisherman’s Wharf sunset of Taiwan. There are also well-complimented delectable snacks such as Ah Gei (bean curd) and fish ball, etc. On Bali left bank, there is the Ferry Old Street and Wazihwei Nature Reserve. It is relaxing and comfortable whether by strolling or cruising through on a bike. Besides the bustling business district, Tamsui is also full of an old vintage flavor. From western architectural relics to residences dating back to Japanese rule, each with their respective features and great stories to tell. If you visit Tamsui in spring, the magnificent cherry blossoms of Tianyuan Palace are a must see. If you wish for further intimacy with nature, why not camp out for the night under the starry sky. The Bali culture park camping site offers round, transparent bubble tents. Experience the close, seamless connection to surrounding nature from within for an unforgettable memory.

Take a train ride to Tamshui Station. Walk around the riverside and a bit cold in evening and can enjoy the sunset. Recommend to foodie because there are a lot of street food in Tamshui Old Street. Can spend 3-4 hours to discover this place.

The morning market at Tamsui Zhongshan road is energetic & full of life. Handmade sausage & pork rice rolls (Cantonese pinyin: Cheong fen) for breakfast . The portion is huge, usually eat with soy sauce. It is delicious & fragrant. Then there is Shrimp dumplings from Danshui Letang Puo. Thin wrapping with lots of filling. Delicious & just the right taste without sauces 👍. Have coffee in the side lane, a small coffee house '吳記舞味屋COFFEE'. Without my usual kopi-o kosong (black coffee without sugar or milk), Latte was ok too

Taiwan has quite a number of "old streets," but Tamsui is the best. The street is composed of old houses and shops, which are several stories tall. The narrow street twists and turns for several hundred yards. Apart from the common souvenirs, it also has edibles such as toasted dried squid, which some visitors may think are a bit odd. By the way, the MRT Red Line terminates in Tamsui.

Not the first time I'm here. But this time round I had the time to really stroll the old streets as I did not take the ferry to Fisherman's Wharf.

Still charming, although a bit out of the way. Sunset is still stunning to watch even after all these years.

And get the iron eggs for souvenir here since this is where it's famous for, but do compare prices.

The transportation is very convenient for me to Tamsui Old Street. There are many delicious food such as Milk Mochi and Agei. Moreover the beautiful river view and sunset impressed me a lot! I think it will be a good choice for me to hang out with my friends.

This is a very busy area specially during the weekends. There is a lot of things to do. So many items for shopping. A lot of street foods and restaurants. There are some street performers doing some acts and they are quite skillful and entertaining. This is a must part of your trip to Tamsui area.

We took MRT Route 2 Tamsui-Xinyi line 淡水信義線 from Taipei Main Station to Tamsui in about 30 minutes and more. Alighted at Tamsui and boarded a bus in front of the station to Fisherman Wharf in another 20 minutes. The fare was quite cheap. Not many visitors were around as there was not much to see during week-days. It was quite windy, and the only attraction we found is the Love Bridge 情人橋. According to local hawkers, this bridge is a good spot for lovers who like to frequent and build their love! As there was not much to see, we boarded the bus and back to the famous Tamsui Old Street 淡水老街. There were many hot and cold food stalls of various kinds. You got to be smart as prices were varied despite the same thing between the front and middle stalls.

It takes time to get there, even with the MRT. If you are planning to go, make sure to include other places in the area as well (fisherman's wharf, wu ji tian yuan temple). It's right by the beach, so if you don't have much time, you don't have to worry about only seeing it's an old street with shops. The shops are located both on the inside of the street and the outside/beachside. You can even take boats to other places from the beach. Lots of gift shop and street games. Snack-wise, I especially like the cakes and grilled seafood. If you're into delicacy, try some tofu dish at the end of the street.
