Then it is about 500m down the hill to the visitor information centre. Here the walking path commences. It is not one for the disabled. It is mostly concrete, but has stairs at times and a couple of bridges to cross. About 700 metres of walking takes you to a food and souvenir precinct and then there is the observation areas. The falls are impressive, but it very much depend on the level of recent rain what you get to see.Visited March 2023Written 18 March 2023

The modest Shifen Waterfall itself is some 2km from Shifen station of the TRA Pingxi Line. It is not a large waterfall, and requires a level of mobility as there are several flights of steps to be surmounted. You can walk to Shifen Old Town from here, but most tour groups would go via the buses. There are a couple of shops here selling souvenirs and local snacks. We managed to buy some persimmons, which had just come into season.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 November 2023

It was drizzling and windy when we walked around the area. There were lots of tourists even on a weekday. It was an interesting walk over a suspension bridge and looking at the waterfall.

A beautiful waterfall especially when the sun is shining because then you also see a rainbow.
You can see the waterfall from different levels.

The walk area to the Shifen waterfall is very well kept and clean. There are little shops and eating areas that surround your trek to the falls. And the falls are beautiful. Make sure you keep going, there is a labyrinth of many paths.

We went on a wet rainy day. The walk way is long but there are shops for souveniers and foods in between. There are even temples and statues of animals. One can also see the pinxi railway

The falls were small but the walk to and over the suspension bridge was pleasant.
Add it to the lanterns and golden waterfall as part of a general tour.

There is a nice walk across a suspension bridge before you come to the falls. However, to appreciate the full beauty, you should walk another few mins to the other side and its true beauty will be seen.

Hello!
Am traveling with kids 6 and 2 yr olds. Is the trail to the waterfalls kid- friendly? Does it really take 30 mins to get to the spot?
Thanks!

I have seen families with little children, as little as 2, making the walk. (Then again, one child differs from another).
But, all kids love to climb up and down.
It will take 30mins as it will be a leisure walk where you will stop, at numerous spots, to take pictures.

Hi, I’m heading to Taiwan with my family and was thinking of doing this activity. How taxing is the whole trail? Is it on a flat ground? Was wondering if it is too taxing for someone who has a chronic heart condition? Thanks!

It is not on flat ground and one needs to climb numerous steps before reaching the waterfall.
As for those with chronic heart disease and has difficulty achieving distance on foot, this trail may be challenging.
If you would like, you may still take a leisurely walk at the beginning of the trail and assess your ability to continue on the trail. Should you not want to continue, you may take a rest at the cafe at the visitor centre while waiting for the rest of the party to complete the trail.
Thereafter, you may walk over to the opposite side to where you release the lanterns.
Generally, all these needs walking.

If I only have the time to bring my 5 and 7 year old children to one waterfall, which one should I choose? Golden Waterfall or Shifen Waterfall?

I did not visit Golden Waterfall, and hence can't compare the two. But Shifen Waterfall is quite nice, and there's a small garden 'playground' near the fall. Hope that helps
