The trip to Mudan township is the most unforgettable one for me. I enjoy watching views and learning culture. Therefore, with the spectacular scenery and the culture of Pai-Wan tribe, I got to relax yourself and learned new things at the same time.
It was a sunny day, and the sky was blue. On the way, I kept seeing outside through the windows of the bus because of the beautiful scenery.
If I have to describe how beautiful it is, I will say every picture you take is going to be the best! After we arrived and put the luggage in the hotel, we took a walk in the moutains. The air was fresh, and we saw two or three eagles flying up high in the sky. It was not an animal common to be seen, so I looked at them carefully trying to remember them as long as possible. After an hour or so, we reached the top! The view was totally different from the bottom.Sea there is also great in Mudan township! Sitting on the sand and listening to the sound of water washing ashore is really the most relaxing thing for me to do!Next, we had a local tour guide introduce the culture of Pai-wan tribe for us. He is a member of Pai-wan tribe in Mudan. He said that it’s sad to see how fast the Taiwanese culture disappear in this generation, but it’s also thrilling to see there are still people trying to pass on the culture generation by generation. Therefore, he came back and dedicated himself in promoting Mudan and the aboriginal culture to the world. I had a good time listening to him sharing ancient stories of Pai-wan tribe. The most interesting one is how the “first” human is created. In Pai-Wan tribe’s legend, the sun is in relationship with the pottery and laid the egg in the pottery. After that, the Hundred-Pacer, a kind of protected species in Taiwan, stays aside the pottery to protect the egg until it hatches. It is this moment when the “first” human is born. Due to this legend, the tribe believes that human is the son of the sun and never harm the Hundred-Pacers. There are much more amusing things you can do and find here. Don’t let the chance slip away! After the trip, I have a stronger feeling about the land Taiwan I’m living, than before. This generation is so developed that we hardly gaze upon the surroundings and miss the beauty near us. We are supposed to be close to the nature, not computers or cellphones. We are given so many but we forget; it wasn’t until what we get used to disappeared that we knew we’ve lost something. Something more important than the technology. The real world is where our feet step on.

You pay per vehicle to get to the 'Grasslands', but it's not much. I think we paid 50NT (about £1, $1USD) for our small van
We came here at like 5 in the morning because we wanted to watch the sunrise... yeah... note to self: we're an island in the Pacific Ocean, clouds like to hang around!! So make sure that the sun is DEFFO going to burn through the cloud before you set your alarm for pre-dawn times.
But wow this place is pretty cool. It's easy to hike and walk around. You can do short or longer routes, up to you. And the views are certainly rewarding!!
And if you're lucky, you might see some wild monkeys! Please try not to feed them cos they'll get aggressive otherwise!!

I would suggest renaming this place Syuhai Meadows (or Grasslands), more akin to the features of the spot as well as to the original Chinese characters.
Really beautiful place, apparently popular with Taiwanese travelers, not much with foreign visitors.
As you drive south along the National Road 26 from Kaohsiung towards Kenting, when you transit through Checheng township turn left on the County Road 199, after a few km you will start seeing road signs for Syuhai Grasslands, then at a crossroad turn right into the Road 199甲, and follow it until the sign to Syuhai Grasslands on your left (just few km after the Shih Men reservoir), go up 3~4km and reach at the parking lot (which is no longer free, that’s because there have been some welcome restoration works of the Park).
A brief wooden path (no wheelchair access) leads to the Grasslands, enjoy fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean over several km of the south-east coastline of Taiwan. Best time to visit is afternoon, as the sun behind you provides more beautiful photo opportunities of the panorama. From the small pavilion overlooking the whole scenery follow down the path through the meadows, then down the wooden stairs to another pavilion (that you will see from the distance) located on a lower position but more near to the coast, then up again completing the circle.
To proceed towards Kenting it’s then convenient to keep down the Road 199甲, then through the county Road 200, up to Hengchun township and back into the Road 26 just few km north of Kenting’s South Bay.
