Hualien sugar factory
There are more than 20 flavors in the ice cream parlor. They got ice cream cones, sundaes, ice pop, ice cream bars, and coffee with ice cream on top!
My favorite one is the brandy ice cream cone. oh! And for people who drive a car don’t worry about that, it's non-alcoholic.
As a student studying in Hualien for 4 years, I really recommend you to visit here. This sugar factory was established in 1921, sugar manufacturing business ended in 2002, so the place was reused as a tourism attraction.
There is a farmers' market across from the ice cream parlor. I bought a cup of coconut water mixed with milk every time I visit the sugar factory, it’s only 30 NT dollars!!!

This old sugar factory is known for its ice. Thus we came over here to give it try. Most of friends had different flavors of ice. I, however, decided to have a traditional peanut cake slice with ice cream wrap instead. Two scopes of ice cream, vanilla and Taro root perfectly mix with peanut cake slice. The wrap is Very delicious and help bring back the childhood memory. But we started to feel itchy and found out a lot nasty, aggressive black mosquitoes were busy attacking us. Make sure you have mosquitoes spray ready before you headed to the food court right next to the fish pond.

Actually nothing much or impressive. Apart from the history of the manufacturing factory for sugar, I don't think it is a complusory place to visit.

I've been here a few times. It's mostly a place that you can wander through and check out local crafts, some of which are excellent. There are a few refreshment stands in here but there is a huge carp pool and some of those fish are enormous. Cute place to stop of for a quick break and a wander to stretch your legs.

The Guanfu Sugar factory that was closed down in 2002 is transform into one of the popular tourist stop-over of Hualien City for local traveller as well as foreign tourists who travel to this district. The complex has cultural park and a pavilion over a carp pond and some handicrafts, souvenirs, café, and snack stalls and the most popular at this destination is for the ice cream with over 30 varieties of flavour. There are a few well preserved Japanese style chalet besides the sugar factory on the left of the entrance. It is available for rent for a stay. Behind the stalls (behind the toilet) there is an old train on an old track where visitors can pose for photos

Is one of the spot on our tour, is interesting, but ok. We had ice-dream (durian flavor) which was good, and the gold fish there eat the ice-cream that you cannot finish.

There is really nothing worhty visiting in this factory except some small well-maintained Japanese old houses. Too commercialized - coupls shops selling cheap souvenirs for tourists, and the ice cream is not even special. If you have lots of time and this place is on your way to another destination, it's ok to stop by and try some ice cream in a hot day. Otherwise, don't waste you time.

Great place to try multi flavor ice creams, at about TWD 50 for two scoops, its really a bargain. The Japanese houses are now renovated, and are just few feet away from the ice cream counter, so do check those out.

This is a little park consting of a pond surrounded by shops.
It s nice to stroll a little bit through the surrounding shops, having an ice cream and to relax in the shade next to the pond.
If you are on the country road 9 I recommend you to take a stop here.
The ice cream is very good by taiwan standards but just "good" by european standards.
