The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Banqiao / Zhonghe / Yonghe District
Banqiao district is the center of administration, shopping and transportation of New Taipei City, encompassing shopping, tasting local snacks, and experiencing traditional and night markets. Here is also the first choice of Christmas celebration in Taiwan- Christmasland in New Taipei City. Within this modern complex, a garden architecture full of Chinese tradition “the Lin Family Mansion and Garden” is hidden, complete with attics, pavilions and artificial mountains and fountains. Zhonghe and Yonghe not only have world class soybean milk, but also have places with a rather artistic lifestyle. Near MRT Yongan Market Station, there is the only old document repair book hospital in Taiwan - the National Taiwan Library Book Hospital bookbinding room. It has been here since Taisho year 4 of the Japanese occupation, which is extremely rare! In addition, the tiny crisscrossing streets of these two cultural districts still holds many interesting bookstores waiting for your discovery.

Christmas is a Christian festival, and only around 5% of Taiwan's population is Christian. However, Christmas is fun in Taiwan. Banqiao, the cultural centre of New Taipei City, always goes out of its way to have a blast at Christmas, with a giant artificial Christmas tree; this is Taiwan, after all. It's illuminated with a sophisticated light and imagery show. The facade of the New Taipei City government serves as a giant screen for an entertaining animation show. Christmas is enjoyable in Taiwan, especially in Banqiao.

Lights... lights... there’s nothing else to see but lights! In a tunnel form, hanging above, dancing lights... name it! They’ve got it all collected in this place! It may be a long ride from Taipei Main Station but it’s all worth it! 😊

Great spot to take kids and enjoy getting into the Christmas mood with a light spectacular....for free! Conveniently located outside the metro station by MegaCity Mall, New Taipei City. Lots of photo opportunities,, twinkling lights, Christmas trees, stage and small amount of vendors. Kids loved it!!

New Taipei City tries to kick the Christmas lights in Banqiao up a notch every year. It's over-the-top, but worth the trip if you like Christmas lights. The crowds in the main square in front of NTC Hall are ridiculous, especially on weekends and later in the evening, so try for a weekday and right around 5 when they first turn on, or just stick the outer periphery of the square and you can still get a good taste of it. Not sure why they have to have a stage with hosts screaming into microphones and blasting awful music at every event in Taiwan. The large lit up metal Christmas tree in the center of the square is gaudy but a sight to behold. The young kids' area over in front of the train station by Wenhua rd. was very disappointing. Just a few stalls selling things and a merry go round with a super long line. The walkways leading out of the train station of like tunnels filled with lights, didn't make it up with my little ones but it would be worth it.

But there's no point to arrange a Taipei trip just for this local event. It's usually cold and rainy during the event. Going to southern Taiwan for an old town trip is a better use of your time.

We went on Dec. 6th of this year and there was nothing happening. There were about 50 empty booths that looked like they were supposed to be rented out to small retailers. There was also one sad looking small merry go round, and that's it. It seemed like someone read about a Western style Christmas market and expected it to happen by itself.

This year's Christmas decorations is by far the best so far! The Christmas lights are perched around the Banqiao station and Banqiao plaza. It's a nice place to visit with friends and family. However, it can get very crowded, so be there on a weekday and late in the evening around 10!

This event were ran for just a few years. And it become one of best place during Christmas. There are food stalls and balloons. But none of these is spectacular than the huge sound and light show which project on neighbor buildings. Avoid weekend if you are afraid of crows

Too crowded and all you see is Christmas lights, you can't really take pictures and all because all you will see is a lot of heads.
