This is a gorgeous temple in the midst of the Alishan Recreation Area. I was afraid I would not be able to enter since there was construction but it was only the exterior. The picture of the deity with all the moths on it was very interesting, especially since we saw one of the moths later on the hike down! Definitely worth a stop if you're here.

As we went down from the sister lake, we approach this temple with food court surrounding. We had the so-called traditional railway lunch box as our lunch. We then went into the temple to search the mystery moth. It’s been quite well known (but I don’t know) that some beautiful moths would fly into the temple and stayed on the surface of the statue. However, we were not lucky enough to see it this trip. I will definitely stop by here during my next trip to check it out.

From Alishan House, we walked here passing the Xianglin Arch Bridge and the Boat-shaped bridge. It has a gorgeous facade and is definitely worth a look. There are some snack and souvenir shops here.

Shouzhen Temple is a highly ornate Chinese temple that we encountered when we came out of our trail walk through the Alishan National Park.

When I say "highly ornate" I mean every square inch of the walls and the ceilings are covering with artefacts, idols, and paintings.

The temple is also so full of incense smoke that I had to go outside to get some fresh air.

It is a beautiful temple and well worth the visit, which unfortunately was marred by an inconsiderate Chinese tour guide who was wired for sound at fifty thousand decibels, disturbing the serenity of this religious site as he led his tour group through it.l

This is a beautiful and colorful temple in the Alishan Forest. The exterior and interior of the temple has a lot of detailed carvings. We happened upon a religious ceremony so we were very lucky and impressed.

We did feel surprise when we saw there is a temple in the forest. The small food court just beside the temple. We were not going inside the temple so we just took a photo then continue our journey.
Visited on Nov 2019.

Toward the end of our magical walk through the Alishan forest, this magnificent Taoist Temple, with its imposing and intricate exterior, appeared before us. What a forest surprise! Our private guide explained to us that because of multiple accidents, the lumbermen cutting down the cypress trees wanted to be protected and blessed from further misfortune. As such, this temple was erected. It was completed in 1948. At an elevation of 7,050 feet, it is proclaimed the highest temple in Taiwan.

Our guide also explained that every March, the temple is visited by moths who roost on the statue of the God, Xuan Wu, which the pious consider to be a mysterious wonder since these moths appear around the time of his birth.

This site is definitely worth a visit!
