A great piece of work realized by one man only, in 33 years and 93000 hours of work. Amazing. Recognized by Picasso, Nikki de Saint Phalle, etc as being a major piece of Art Naïf. Kids get a game to find figures and everybody gets to walk in it - which makes it a very nice experience. Plenty of restaurants... More

For me personally is not worthy to visit. Of course it doesn't remove any value to this exceptional place and the work of the builder

Had heard about this place more than 10 years ago in a class for beginners french. Finally had the opportunity to visit this. In my mind I absolutely wanted to visit this place but was concerned that my wife who's this non-musems type might find it uninteresting. However the story behind this place and the actual art is so different... More

Watt's Towers in Los Angeles is comparable but this is an incredible accomplishment. The postman must have had an fertile imagination to build, add, revise and complete this project. It's phenomenal that so many years later we can still climb on it, fully appreciating some aspects that otherwise would not be apparent. Well worth the visit.

Postman Ferdinand who built the Palais Ideal must have had an incredible imagination and tenacity. He spent 33 years building this magnificent structure It is an incredible place to visit, and well worth the 5,50 euros admission charge.

We had never heard of this place but it was on our way, so we went. This is a gigantic folly, built over many years by a devoted passionate postman. It is great fun to visit and explore. Allow about an hour and park before you get too close to the entrance, then it is free.

Myself and my husband cycled here as part of our holiday in the Rhone Alpes region and wow, we were not disappointed. We are both members of the Folly Fellowship in the UK so had read about this place and planned to visit specially. It was even more than we had imagined. So beautifully and imaginatively built and so wonderfully... More

Well signposted once you get to Hauterives except the very last sign to it after the village itself, is actually AT the left turn into the carpark entrance, so its too late to turn and you drive past. Luckily a recycling yard follows almost immediately on the right , where you can turn round and turn in from the other... More

I was returning to the Palais with my young children, after 20 years. The site has a great activity sheet for kids to complete and understand the artist's motives. Must go

I didn't know about this place and when I arrived I couldn't believe my eyes, especially when I learnt how the palace (and it is a palace!) was made..one man's imagination and perseverance can construct something so amazing and full of details, so it is no wonder that this work is inspiration for other artists! And you can go around... More
