Just before or just past Furnace Creek, pull into the parking area. Easy short circuit up a mild hill past the borax mining relics and back in history.
Who would believe borax was more valuable than other minerals.

Take the time to read the signs as they do an excellent job of telling the story of this operation. Borax has a fascinating history both with the mineral and with those who mined it. Read up on it before you visit this site and use that information as add-on to the signage. Plan to spend, at least, 45 minutes here.

Harmony Borax Works has the ruins of 19th century borax mining and processing operation. A short interpretive trail runs around the site. We visited a couple time while staying in Furnace Creek. We came after dark as it makes a good place for stargazing. We also visited at sunset for a fiery and beautiful sky. Definitely worth a stop to learn a bit about history and enjoy the desert beauty.

There is not much left of all the old mining stuff in the park, so stop here to see it. You don't get a feel for how huge these wagons are until you get up close to them.

Easy stroll up and around the ruins,

The Harmony Borax works is a small historical sight close to the Furnace Creek visitor center. There are a few exhibits close to the parking lot. It’s a good stop and won’t take too long to see.

This is a pleasant walk around an old mining area. Plaques labeled everything. Lots of old machines and wagons.

This is a very easy to reach place just along the side of the road. It is a historic site one of the first Borax works in the valley; nearly everyone has heard of "20 Mule Team Borax" and this is where it came from. That being said, there is not a lot left at the site. There is a set of wagons and an old boiler (?).
There is an interesting book on the subject: "The Twenty Mule Team of Death Valley" by Ted Faye in the "Images of America" series that has period pictures of the Harmony Borax works and makes the site somewhat more interesting and worth a visit.
