This excursion was part of a private tour (My Day Trip to Ecuador) that I used while in Guayaquil, before and after I visited The Galapagos. I had wanted to see Rosette Spoonbills while in Ecuador and the Manglares Churate Ecological Reserve is a great place to see them. There are many spoonbills there and seeing them in trees as well as flying against the green trees was a great site. Beside spoonbills there are egrets, herons and other aquatic birds.
The boat used is small, functional and perfect for the excursion.
This is a great pre or post Galapagos tour and a good complement to the wildlife seen in The Galapagos.

Our group recently took a day tour of the Manglares Charute Ecological Reserve with Blue Planet Expeditions (http://blueplanetexpeditions.net). The tour was fantastic! We were picked up at our hotel in Guayaquil in an air conditioned van, provided with an English speaking guide and water/drinks for the day. The tour was not just of the reserve, it include lunch at a local cacao farm and the chance to make chocolate from scratch. The reserve tour added a local guide who provided us with his knowledge of the flora/fauna of the reserve during the boat ride in the mangroves. We also hiked and saw the howler monkeys. Definitely bring your mosquito repellant! (we were well prepared thanks to the tour operator). The lunch at the farm was delightful - we got to see how chocolate is harvested and the beans are prepared and then helped make the best hot chocolate ever! The lunch was tasty and well prepared. I'd definitely use Blue Planet Expeditions again.

This was the first National Park we visited and it was beautiful. We went out into the Mangroves in a dug-out canoe and saw many local birds. We also took a hike in the forest. It was a first great experience in the beautiful and very diverse country of Ecuador

I brought my group from Singles in Paradise on this tour during our stay in Guayaquil. First off, it was very difficult to set up. The webpage for this reserve does not have email and their phone # is wrong. They require a guide that you can pay for for $50 plus the entry fee of $13 and this is without transportation but they guides do not speak English so I hired our own English speaking guides.
The visit is in two parts - a hike and a boat ride, which there is another charge of $50. The hike was so completely infested with mosquitos that they were on every part of our bodies. You had to be completely sprayed down, even your clothing.. My wife got bit on her face, which she had not sprayed. Plus the hike was just not all that interesting. Most of the tour was talking about trees. There were some howler monkeys way up in the trees that were in-active.
The better part of the tour was the boat ride through these man-made channels. We got away from the mosquitos and there were quite a few interesting birds.
All in all, I would not bring another group here. Just too expensive with all the components and way too many mosquitos.

Buenos días:
