- Tatyana S4 contributionsAmazing Pottery classI booked a pottery class to surprise my partner and have a memorable experience together. Carolyn were amazing in communicating any and all details possible and very prompt in her replies. She also went above and beyond for us as we asked to see if our pieces could be finished in the kiln and picked up earlier as we were leaving in 10 days. Pauline, our teacher, was warm, funny, extremely experienced and welcoming to our first experience with pottery. She finished our pieces as soon as she could and we were lucky and happy recipients of our creations:)) I can’t recommend this place enough for a beautiful, heartful, fun experience!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 January 2024
- Edie RCincinnati, Ohio232 contributionsBeautiful pottery made on the premisesI have a friend who is a potter. Since she knew that we were going to Barbados, she said that we had to visit Earthworks. She had been told about it as a must see so we went. It's in a residential neighborhood on a hill set back overlooking the water. You can climb up the steps that have broken pieces of pottery embedded in them. This isn't a fancy store but a working pottery studio. The pieces for sale are on open shelving in the front. There was so much from which to choose. The studio part is open and I talked to one man who told me a little about the studio. If you love pottery, this is a place for you.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 March 2024
- Phil&KimMoncton, Canada214 contributionsLook no further for pottery in Barbados. If you are looking for pottery in Barbados, this is it. The shop is quite large and they have a huge selection of pottery made on site. We saw some of their products sold nearer to the cruise port but it was so limited that you are better off coming here. Prices were decent and they do take credit card. At the same time, there is a Batik shop (HP Batik Studio) on the same property that has beautiful pieces, either art, clothes, bags, etc.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 April 2024
- kazzaCalgaryCalgary, Canada148 contributionsLovely placeTraditional Barbadian pottery. Lots of colourful pieces to choose from. On site also is a Batik shop and an art gallery and cafe. We looked around the art gallery and admired the beautiful different artists pieces of work. Also stopped at the cafe for a wonderful lunch.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 September 2024

This was one of our most special places on the island, the colors and patterns are outstanding. We had a hard time selecting the best ones for our personal tastes. We could have bought the entire store! Just a great place to visit

Gorgeous pottery and very difficult to choose!! Use this set for chips and salsa regularly. Also visited the batik artist next door, and purchased this beautiful piece reminiscent of the ancestor of mine, Daniel Terrill, who had a sugar plantation nearby this shop. The plantation home is still there, owned by a French immigrant.
Our trip was many years ago, but I just recommended it to a friend and found the Earthworks website online. Looks just the same as I remember it.

The pottery is amazing we ordered two sets of unique salt and pepper shakers. However as they did have in stock they said they would post them to us, we questioned postage and told "it wouldn't cost a lot" so we ordered them, corrected they arrived in the give time frame BUT the cost of shipping is extortionate £51. There was a discrepancy and they charged us more but this was refunded straight away....in short I would buy their goods but don't have it shipped

This is exactly what the name and description say: a working pottery producing beautiful items that will really remind you of the island. The range and colours are impressive, and the choices seem endless. Nothing is overpriced, so give yourself plenty of time to look around before you choose something special. The Batik artist on site is very interesting, as are the varied local artworks also on display. Make sure to check out the cafe serving nice drinks and good food, and the seating veranda gives you a wonderful viewing platform across the island. The fact that they use the pottery for the cafe is an added touch. Check out the steps up from the lower parking area, again highlighting their craftsmanship. The location is a bit out of the way, but well worth the effort. We booked a taxi through our hotel and gave ourselves 2 hours, time very well spent.

We originally visited this pottery 30 years ago and bought a pottery chattel house which we still have. We visited again today and were pleasantly surprised at the standard and variety of excellent pottery still being made. The service was friendly and the staff are knowledgeable. We bought 4 lovely pottery mugs - delighted with them.

We visited the pottery in a quiet spell during heavy rain and had the place to ourselves. The staff members we met were attentive and helpful and we really liked the two new designs that were on sale.
I'd encourage all travellers to visit this place as it showcases Bajan craftmanship and even if you don't wish to buy it is a chance to see inside working pottery in a less visited part of the island.

Beautiful place. Pottery work in a dazzling array of patterns and colours. Bought a beautiful cobalt blue sugar bowl. They ship internationally too so you can order from their website if there isn’t enough room in your suitcase to take it home.

For this visit to Barbados and Earthworks, we had ordered our friends a specially made plate for a wedding gift as they got married on the beautiful island of Barbados, so we thought this would be the perfect gift.
My wife arranged to have the plate specially made prior to arriving in Barbados, and we collected it when we took our friends there to see the pottery...they loved the gift and the Earthworks people were great to deal with, helping us to design the plate and organise the gift prior to going to Barbados, so thank you.
Earthworks is well worth the visit for getting handmade pottery all made on site as a memento of your trip to the island of Barbados.

Hi, how do I get to Earthworks from Oistins using public transport? Is is possible to catch a bus or ZR?
Written 5 January 2020
Hi. You can get a taxi, or use the buses. Catch a bus or ZR to own, then walk across the bridge past Nelson and out to the Post Office (other bus stand) which takes 5 minutes. Catch a yellow minibus either a "Hillaby" or a "Shop Hill" and the conductor will tell you where to get out. It's a 20 minute ride from the station. Then a short walk through some quite large houses/safe neighborhood following the Earthworks signs. We look forward to seeing you!

How far is Earthworks from the cruisehips?
Written 26 October 2017
Hi! It's an easy bus ride from the bus station close to the cruise terminal. Catch a yellow one, either "Hillaby" or "Shop Hill" asking the conductor to let you off at Earthworks. It's then a short walk through a safe neighborhood in the cool hills of St Thomas. Or go a bit luxury and simply jump into a taxi. Takes about 15-20 mins by taxi and on the bus may be 30-45 mins depending on whether the bus takes its time or not. See you at Earthworks!!!

What is the easiest way to get to Earthworks Pottery from ST. Lawrence Gap?
Written 19 April 2016
Taxi is one way, it's about a 20 min drive. Bus to Bridgetown, walk across town to the yellow minibus stand; then catch a 'Shop Hill' or 'Hillaby' yellow minibus. Conductor will let you out on the hill, it's a 5 minute walk through some large houses, a middle class, breezy area which is safe. See you at Earthworks!

I was shocked to read that your mugs are not dishwasher safe....being an ex-potter. Hope you have increased the firing or whatever to deal with that problem.
Written 8 February 2015
This simply isn't true. Our pottery is fired to 1,175 degrees Centigrade (over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit) and it is not possible for any part of it to be melted in the relatively low temperature of a dishwasher. Not possible, not true. We stand by the quality of our wares with 35 years experience giving the best service and back-up!
