Visiting the monastery of profitis ilias is a amazing experience.Is the highest point of Santorini and the view is incredible.

Well worth the drive up to the monastery. Beautiful chapel. Views from the top are spectacular. You cannot enter the monastery. We noted some other people had booked a private tour guide- not necessary in our opinion.

The monastery is not open but a small chapel and church are, also small gardens with viewing platforms. The whole top of the mountain affords incredible views of the whole island. I would recommend driving up but take it easy. Walking would not be recommended...More

Yes, it's the highest point and the views are the best, but do make sure you arrive at monastery's opening hours for the 360 degree views of the island.

No, I don't believe it is required as this is an Orthodox chuapel/ However, I was always taught it was the proper, respectful thing to do for women and men should remove hats.
