I was not at all impressed with this place. Its not actually beach, rather a cliff and controlled by locals. The gondola over there are risky, not insured. No SAFETY! Being a foreigner if something happens Indonesia government wont support. If you want to do adventure stuff you can do in many places which are developed by Government. We ate in one restaurant nearby, i have never seen so many flies hovering on your food before....You can ask the driver to skip this beach and take you to many other nice beaches near by!!

We hired a driver for a day and Timang Beach was on our itinerary. Our driver recommend going to another beach but a few in our group were truly curious to see the cable cart that Timang Beach is known for.
As we got near the beach, our driver told us that he couldn’t drive us to the beach because the Timang locals stop outsiders from driving visitors from the edge of the Timang neighborhood (so to speak) to the beach.
The locals insist on doing the driving in small jeeps. The only catch: for this 15 minute jeep ride, they (who have a monopoly on this Jeep shuttle business) charge 350k rupiah per vehicle.
Let’s put things in perspective: the international tourist price for a driver and car for 1 whole day’s worth of driving is about 600k - 750k (if you’re a domestic tourist, it’s about half that). So being charged 350k for a 15 minute jeep ride to the beach and back is an extraordinary rip off. We were taken aback, but since we were a group of 5, and had already come so far out from Jogja AND were already near the beach, we thought alright let’s just do this. (I later found out that the locals benchmark their “rate” against the Merapi lava tour rate - only difference is the shortest Merapi lava tour is 2-3 hours long, goes to a fair few places of interest, and comes with a guide!)
The jeep turned out to be the smallest Jeep I’ve ever seen. A really tiny, cramped vehicle with little headroom and an engine that sputtered toxic gas and had continuous explosions. Nothing like the jeeps used for the Merapi lava tour. I remarked to my friends that I wouldn’t be surprised if the vehicle blew up sometime during our short ride.
Here’s where it gets worse. We probably would have let the discomfort of the 350k slide, but then...
We were honestly looking forward to the beach but when we got there we were dismayed that you could be charged for the stupidest of things. Like for just STANDING somewhere. No kidding. 10k to take a selfie (yea you read that right, you pay 10k so you can take a picture Of Yourself at the beach), 30k to walk around the paths on the beach (again, this is just stupid).
Oh and the cable cart? It’s 200k to take a 2 minute ride on that horrendously unsafe contraption and we did not take it. Plus the waters beneath are rocky and extremely choppy. Seriously, you’d be foolish to risk your life just for that Instagram pic.
Also it’s 100k for a 2-minute walk across the rope bridge that runs parallel to the cable cart.
PS there’s nothing else to do and nowhere else to go at Timang Beach besides all the aforementioned activities.
The locals are definitely milking this cash cow for all its worth. And honestly, the blatant moneygrubbing everywhere just made us feel so uncomfortable and spoiled the visit.
Anyway, guess we got our cable cart answers. Also we definitely do not recommend this place.
Sharing this so all potential visitors know what you’re gonna encounter at Timang.
And hey, you might really enjoy Jogan Beach... before it gets all touristy.

If you want to go exactly to the location, you need to hire a Jeep ride, cost about IDR 350,000 per ride (share with friends), do not go if you think your car is not made for a rough ride.
This place is beautiful, but actually I'm a little bit disappointed with the local money attraction business if you know what i mean (almost all view spot requires money to enter).
You can go with the stunning (suspension?) bridge, or the gondola ride, cost you about IDR 100,000 or IDR 150,000 for the gondola. Yes, you can't use bridge and return with gondola, vice versa.
If you got lucky when the waves are high (yeah, really HIGH), you can get a gondola ride while the waves splash at your gondola ride, and it will be a really cool photo (or your last cool photo, since the ropes I personally don't really get how the safety measurement are securely guaranteed), but it's fun!
Overall, not disappointed with the view, kinda makes me a little bit money shortage, despite that I am a local, but the price is CRAY.

Recommended to come here by my guide. Took a Jeep from the village to the beach which cost us 350k IRP. The view was just breathtaking with the treacherous wave and rugged landscape. We chose the gondola ride, and one really had to ignore the safety aspect. It was a hair-raising ride, with the crushing wave chasing behind the gondola. Adrenaline filled to the max! The view from the other end was even more breathtaking! We were slightly upset that we weren’t told the Jeep ride did not include the price for the gondola, which cost additional 200k IRP per pax or the bridge which cost additional 100kIRP. Apart from that, it was an experience of a life time!

Listed as one of the top 10 things to do when you visit Yogyarkarta. Pulau Timang is about 1 1/2 to 2 hr hour scenic drive from Baron Beach area. Our adventure begins from the start of our drive - passing by several popular, beautiful beaches and then towards the last 45 mins of the journey, the road seem to have disappeared from the map and we hit a very remote area with no proper road leading to the beach. It was crazily rocky and the ride - bumpy all the way. We prayed both the suspension and tyres of our 10 seater and the Toyota Avanza would make it through without puncture. If there was a breakdown, we would be stranded for hours. There are fishermen's villages nearby but depending on which part of the bumpy stretch, you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere. This part of the journey was a big highlight in itself. "We made it! We are safe!" Forget about the return journey for now, the view that greeted us was simply out of this world. Weather was perfect. Superbly blue skies, the roar of the ocean... I guess the remoteness of this beach plus the wooden cable chair suspended on air by fishermen's ropes, knots and pulleys above rough seas with absolutely no safety gear nor any safety precaution whatsoever, that really pumped up the adrenalin rush. Out of the 17 people in our group of 3 men, 4 women, 3 teens and the rest young children, only 2 moms and their young children ( age 11 to 5 ) took the ride. We accompanied our young child in the chair lift of course. The ride across the wild seas that looked like it was waiting to swallow us up took under a minute. Crazy? Totally!! Would I do it again? After you, sir. I'd bask myself in the sun at the nearby deserted beach. Soft sand, big waves, shady mangrove trees.
Other information/highlights:-
1. We searched the net and got the contact number of the fishermen. We checked availability and made prior bookings.
2. We also booked lobster lunch complete with traditional fisherman's homecooked meal. We went into their kitchen, saw them clean and boil the lobster, sat on the floor and had lunch cross legged. There you go, another challenge.
3. After Pulau Timang, we visited Pantai Sepanjang.... oh wow! and onward to D'omah Hotel Yogya .... and the wow! factor continues.....

The beach is nice and very relaxing but what really makes the visit worth it is the gondola ride!
My husband and I drove 3 hours from Yogyakarta. It's primarily an easy drive on newer roads but as you get close you turn off the main road to head down to the beach. There's an unofficial stop with someone asking for a donation and then again as you get closer where they'll stop you to park. We were told we really shouldn't drive the car down (rough road, might pop a tire, etc.) and parked up top for Rp 5,000. We decided to walk the rest of the way (about 3km) instead of getting a ride from them. However, the ride down is very affordable (Rp 50,000 per person) and if you're not up for a walk, definitely take them up on it! It's a workout if you walk so be prepared. That being said, during our walk, we saw several cars driving back and forth that all seemed fine (even the tour company drivers go all the way down. If you have a motorbike, definitely drive yourself.
Now, the exciting part: my husband and I got into the gondola (yes, together - they (said we'd be safe, sort of) and off we went! It's a "go at your own risk" situation but that's what an adrenaline pump is all about, right?!
There's food and drink on site as well if you need a snack. We had heard ahead of going that you could get a fresh lobster (the story of how this came about and the fisherman is worth reading about). There were signs there but when we asked they seemed pretty shocked (i.e."you want lobster here!?") - so we ended up leaving but when we finished our walk back, the parking guys were really helpful with this. They ended up leading us up the road to a place nearby that served us DE-LICIOUS fresh lobster meals. DO IT. We were there during rainy season so maybe they have it on site during dry season (this is pure assumption).
All and all, we had a great time, enjoyed some beautiful views and got some great photos. Although the beach is nice, I would say it's only worth the trip if you're going to do the gondola ride or do something else in the area.
Rundown
Cost:
Entry (to beach or to see gondola): none
Donation: whatever you feel (we gave Rp 10,000)
Parking: Rp 5000
Ride from parking to Gondola: Rp 50,000 per person
Gondola: Rp 200,000 per person
Lobster meal: Rp 700,000 for a whole or Rp 350,000 for half (half is plenty for one person).

This place offers you a different experience comparing to others beach. Its located in wonosari, that can be reached from yogyakarta or solo. Its around 2.5 hours from solo. The road is quit good, bumpy a bit. Arrival at the end of the road, you need to park the car and continue by motorcycle. You can pay the motorcycle Rp 30.000 for the round trip. Cause the road is very bumpy. It takes around 3km. Arriving at the beach, the view is very nice. And also offer you a challenge to cross another beach. They serve with gondolla. Actually is very manual. They dont even prepare for the life jacket. But they said, they use the gondolla and its very safe. Paying around rp 150.k for local people, i try to reach across the beach. Feel the heart beat. Cause if you look down, the sea is under your feet directly. Some of local people are using this gondolla for daily activities. They are looking for lobster which sometimes are trapped on the rocks.

Once you drive down there, there is a 3km walk to get to the beach, half the road is very rocky and slightly muddy, so it's hard to walk in flip flops or are feet. so you might want to BRING SHOES. it is a scenic walk and nice if you have shoes. Alternatively, you can get a motorbike taxi for rp15,000 ($1.5). We walked there and got a taxi back, the taxi ride was fun if you get a bmx type bike and hold on tight.
Also, the day we went was very windy and the waves were too high to ride the golongan, but it looked pretty sketchy because it's rp200,000 and there's no insurance and it looks like handmade ropes and pulleys. Still recommend going there because the scenery was gorgeous to watch, especially the rolling blue waves, and you can take pictures on some balcony things for rp5,000. local people were very friendly and an old man helped me when my sandals broke, I would like to go there again when it is not so windy to see what it looks like.

It takes more than 2 hours to get here from Jogjakarta. The last 3 kilometers are made of 2 cement trails just nice for car wheels to roll on. In-between are grass and rocks. There are certain parts where there are no cement trails absolutely. Instead, the path is completely filled with football-size sharp-edged granite rocks making it an extremely spine-breaking ride! You gotta really suffer to get to Timang Beach.
But... once you get there, you just forgot all that ordeal! The dark shade of ultramarine blue ocean waves beating angrily against the shore and cliffs takes your breathe away. The lone jagged Timang Island (Pulau Timang) just about 300 meters away from the closest cliff is quite a sight to behold. There's a lone gondola connecting to it for anyone who wants to get over. The opening price is IDR 150,000 per person. However, if there are a few of you, you can try to bargain down the price.
Even if you don't get on the gondola, the view and the amazing sea breeze are still spectacular. Walk around the cliffs in the area, enjoy the bay of 'holey' rocks filled with sea urchins.
The place is quite an experience itself. Once done, it's back to the ordeal of 3 kilometers of rocky road before getting on the nice tarmac back to Jogjakarta.
A virgin beach and island for sure, even to the locals!

Hi bro, sorry if my answer is late, I hope it can help other tourists, I just came from this place and all my trips and activities in Yogyakarta were taken care of by Java Private Tour, I got recommendations from some of my colleagues at the embassy, I admit the service is very good good, because of the recommendation from the embassy I don't doubt it, you can check it on tripadvisor about java private tour and also search it on google

You can’t ride all the way up to Timang Beach. You have to transfer to a Jeep that will take you all the way to the beach. The road is bumpy; riding on bike might not be safe.
