Cruising on the Viking Osfrid from Porto, we reached the first lock on the Douro River, the Crestuma Lock, at 8:30 am. Here our boat goes up 14 meters. More impressive locks are ahead but this is a taste of what's to come. It was quite fun sitting on the balcony of our ship and watching the walls go by.

Extremely interesting. It is an awesome work of engineering. Very good for kids, curious adults, and of course engineers of all ages.
some boat tours have meals and wine.

Having started a river cruise from Porto, the lock, "The Crestuma" is the first lock of five on the Douro.
Amazing engineering. Never been through this kind of lock in the past.
If you appreciate Waterwork engineering, you will love this trip.
When on a River Cruise, there is only space for the one boat in the lock.
Watch out for the free shower on the top deck!!

A really amazing experience being on a river cruise boat watching the captain inch the boat into the lock with absolutely no room to spare. Whether you are going up-river or down-river it is great to see the boat rising or falling in the massive lock.

Maybe interesting if you are on a boat trip........... to visit, unlike other Portuguese dams, that are located in beauty spots, this one is really not worth the trouble, only if you are interested in the engineering!
