Some day, according to the attendant who was kind enough to serve me and my guide coffee and dates, there will be an interpretation center and much more information developed about this site. Today is not that day. Getting to the site is treacherous (we had to park at the bottom of the rubble strewn hill and walk up), there are no markings or information. If you are hard core for seeing these ancient monuments, then by all means go. If not, I think I would take a pass until the site is more developed.

Miriam Bibi’s tomb is currently lying desolate but is of great historical importance. Archeological department has declared it a heritage site and has started making it into a tourist spot. Steep climb at least 100-150meters, but worth it, to feel the ancient historical ambience of ancient Middle East. Very few people find it as part of their Oman tour. Be the first few to visit.

The sites now under restoration. It is easy to see from highway road Sur-Muscat. To get there, you have to reach exit way to Qalhat (ancient city of Qalhat), then follow the road until sign board Madinat Qalhat standing in the left side. Park the car before slope, and you can walk 10 minutes.
Still questionable who buried in this building, but people believe the queen Kingdom of Hormuz (Bibi Maryam) buried in this place. The place once famous in ancient map, and also visited by Ibn Batuta and Marco Polo, before Portuguese army sacked and burn the city.

A beautiful old tomb with a questionable history, you can only really see this site from the highway. There is a good pull-off from which to take photos, but you are not allowed close to the site. It is fenced off.

Truely incredible to have this UNESCO site all to ourselves. Bit tricky to find but it was a great add-on after a beautiful day at Wadi Shab.

While you are coming from Sur, you need to stop at this place. Historical venue with some great history behind. Relaxing place with sea at the background.

If you love camping in wilderness and want to enjoy nature up close and personal, this is the place to set up your camp. Secluded, complete privacy, pebble beach potruding in the sea and great views of blue turquoise water.

It is one of the most spectacular locations to be found along the coast stretching between Muscat and Sur, an area rich in history and heritage sites.

When we reached Qalhat mausoleum was actually closed for renovations. However, kind worker let us in to take a look - it's small but architecture is beautiful and will look amazing when restored. Legend says that the tomb of Bibi Maryam was built by the king of Hormuz Bahaudin Ayez, or that her tomb was is a site of a mosque that Lady Maryam built for herself as a final resting place.

This is a very important archeological site in Oman. Although not impressive to look at Qalhat was the former capital and both Ibn Battuta and Marco Polo stopped over here. Well worth a detour. For more info see my non-commercial travel blog at dewdorde.blogspot.ie: Rihla 42. April 2014.
